Set in Nanaimo and within 200 metres of Nanaimo Museum, Painted Turtle Guesthouse has a shared lounge, non-smoking rooms, and free WiFi. Everything was clean and it felt very safe. Also the guy at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful. I also liked that there were only four beds in the women’s dorm.

Very responsive to messages and happy to allow us a slightly later check in of 630. It was easy to find the location was fantastic. Anthea was really helpful to direct us to food in the area, but also for our onward travels through British Colombia. The accommodation was cozy and clean. She had two lovely daschunds who were very friendly and a great perk of the accommodation. Definitely would stay again

Nanaimo is the little city that could! adorable city centre (small) and kind people. But best of all, it is a great lift-off point to see the incredible wonders of Vancouver Island if you don't want to camp... hikes, waterfalls, watersports... all at your finger tips
Jaw-droppingly beautiful Newcastle Island Park right there! Excellent innovative fine dining/cocktails and wine at Mélange. Amazing breakfast at Gabrielle’s Cafe. Fun coffee, drinks and eats at The Vault, which has a rather mesmerizing ambience. We stayed at the Dorchester Best Western. It is worth it to get a harbour facing room. The islands and water there are spectacular to wake up to. Be sure to spend time exploring along Chapel and Church streets area - the old part of town. It is small but really interesting. Nanaimo is also an excellent hub for day trips.
I l lived in Nanaimo for 20 years and was thier for business reasons. The motel had no facilities to make coffee or tea or any drawers to put clothes in. Management even locked me out of my room even though it was pre payed. Management needs to have training in work properly for customers.
Nice town. Good things to do in the area. Cowichen River float, Parksville mini golf, cycling the adjacent islands. Druggies and street people/beggars. Sirens all night. Car alarms. Shouting at night. Traffic even during the week at off peak hours.
The Inner Harbor was beautiful. The Snowbirds did a show when I was there. The harbor was lively and fun. The hiking in the area was awesome. Nanaimo is easy to navigate with a car. Great halfway stop between Victoria and Tofino.
This wasn't our first trip to Nanaimo so we did know our way around most of the city and beyond, but it is always a great place to be. We love the well planned Harbour walkways, many events in the parks, the beach trails. Our favourite beach walks are Piper's Lagoon and Neck Point. There are many good music venues, restaurants, scenic drives and walks. We easily found side roads that were basically parallel to the highway to get to and from downtown. Nanaimo has has a LOT to offer any visitor of any age! Can't wait to return!
