We’d landed in what would become our most immersive French experience of the trip. La Roche du Croue is a centuries-old alpine dairy building, now a cosy B&B set right in the heart of the village. Our room was simple, clean, and comfortable, with a banger of a view straight into the Alps. What really made it special was our host, Marianne. She insisted we sit down with her and other guests for both dinner and breakfast. The food was sensational — three-course dinners with proper alpine heartiness — but the real treat was the company. Everyone made the effort to share their day, even if language slowed things down a little. From the moment I lifted the heavy barn-door latch and stepped into the old tunnel entrance, I knew we’d found something special. We have travelled France for nearly a month, and in terms of value for money La Rouche du Croue has been outstanding. Even the cat is friendly. We had only booked one night, we stayed two. Now that is saying something.

It's a renovated château, an incredibly charming set-up and beautiful surroundings. Mathilde and everyone were super nice, I liked my room very much, it had a balcony and there was a common garden to chill in the shade. I have not had an accommodation that came close to this one on my trip, neither before nor after, so thanks very much and see you again hopefully
