FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, where you can walk through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the color of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping center has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this isn't the city’s only sports heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules soccer and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodations from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Melbourne is a great little city with a lot to do, easy to get around and safe. The tram system is currently going through a big upgrade so that will make things even better but everything is already quite accessible and there are wide range of things to keep anyone busy. Live shows, eating out, art and culture are all very accessible and well worth the effort.

Transport around Melbourne excellent. At Southern Cross station all country trains start. 5 to 10 minutes from one end city to the other. All trams free in city area. Lots of things to see close in and in nearby suburbs. Beaches a quick tram trip. Lots of theatres and sporting venues.

Visiting Melbourne really benefits from wandering around and getting lost in the city. There are lots of hidden gems. Visiting galleries and museums is a great way to spend a cold or rainy day, but when it's warm the city comes alive with outdoor cafes in Fitzroy and on the Southbank river-front. There is absolutely no shortage of great food and drinks, which can be pricey, but are very worth it.

I love Melbourne, it has that old world/European feel to it. It's very cosmopolitan and there are secret alleyways with cafes and restaurants everywhere. There's plenty to see and do, and the public transport is spot on.

You cannot fault the location of The Oaks. Very central and within walking distance to Crown casino, DFO outlet, Melbourne CBD just across the bridge and all the lovely restaurants along the Southbank promenade. Apartment was serviced day. Views of the Melbourne skyline are fabulous. The foyer and rest of the hotel was very clean. We had the 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment and it was very spacious and comfortable. Fully functional kitchen was stocked daily with tea/coffee etc.

Everything is perfect. The location is central enough but away from the city noise ( there are a lot of constractions going on in CBD at the moment), the staffs are friendly and very helpfu, our room was spacious and very clean. Been to hotel Sophia in the past and it is definitely one of the best places for a short stay in Melbourne. Proximity to Southern Cross Station makes it a no brainer for travelling from/to Tullamarine Airport and also walking distance to the CBD area/free tram precinct.
