Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.
South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

The weather was still cool, rainy and very windy, but I think this is something to expect in Melbourne. But getting around in Melbourne & St Kilda was great, easy accessing trams, South Melbourne markets and Queen Victoria markets were overwhelming. Great to have a car so you can explore outside the central area of Melbourne. I recommend a lot of patience if you have never driven in Melbourne, the roads can be confusing, but it is easy to get around. Transport around Melbourne excellent. At Southern Cross station all country trains start. 5 to 10 minutes from one end city to the other. All trams free in city area. Visiting Melbourne really benefits from wandering around and getting lost in the city. There are lots of hidden gems. Visiting galleries and museums is a great way to spend a cold or rainy day, but when it's warm the city comes alive with outdoor cafes in Fitzroy and on the Southbank river-front.
