Admittedly, although we could see them from the beach, we needed binoculars to get a better look. The town is so cozy and lovely, and the community is very sweet. The art culture along the coastal walk was amazing to experience and the whole place is just comfortably walkable! The beach-side food places we ate at were great and the beaches are very relaxing. Port Macquarie is a town of about 50,000 people spread over quite a wide area. In 1821, Port Macquarie was founded as a penal settlement, replacing Newcastle as the destination for convicts who had committed secondary crimes in New South Wales. For the tourist, there is a lot to see and do, with a walk along the marina, the Breakwell and the coastal path a must. Beautiful beaches such as Town Beach, Shelley Beach, Oxley Beach and Flynn Beach - all within a few kilometers. A Hastings River cruise is a must. Might be picky but bathroom vents, skirting, frame of shower screens are just some areas and the smell. Use something to make the rooms smell fresh not musty. On our trip up we stayed at a Motor Inn at Port Macquarie in a renovated room and the attention to detail in cleanliness was amazing.
