Quiet village (car-free) in a beautiful location. Well-served by trains from Lauterbrunnen every half-hour (one of THE scenic rail journeys in the Alps) with connections to Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg for high-level walking. Easy to reach Mürren, Stechelberg, Gimmelwald, etc., for hiking ... also not far from Interlaken, its two lakes, and good rail connections throughout the country; I did Fribourg and back on a dull day. Wengen itself has lovely local hikes e.g. down to Lauterbrunnen or up to the café at Allmend ... many gorgeous chalets in the village with well-tended gardens and window boxes ... seeing the autumn descent of the cattle from the high pastures was a real highlight of the trip ... Wengen is a perfect spot to make home base while you explore the Lauterbrunnen and Jungfrau region. This car free village is easily accessible by train from Lauterbrunnen, where you find a relatively cheap car park and train access to Interlaken. Wengen felt less crowded than Mürren or Lauterbrunnen in the valley. There are numerous restaurants, stores, and two grocery stores in town to stock up on essentials. Wengen location was great and not as busy compared to Grindelwald. No cars allowed and quieter location. It’s definitely more of a ski village feel. The train station is easily accessible to all lodging. Only downside is the lack of restaurant options compared to larger villages such as Grindelwald. Wengen was better than expected.
Wengen was better than expected. The trains up and down were so good and reliable. The town has an amazing position high above Lauterbrunnen valley. Good walks through and around Wengen. Choice of restaurants were ok but we were expecting more. Lots to do, definitely be back one day. It is a bit up and down so expect a workout. A lovely, well-established ski and hiking center, with panoramic views. Easy access by train and connections to other towns and sights in the area. Wengen was a quaint little town with a train station, good tourist shopping and stunning views. We struggled a little finding a dinner restaurant but luckily our hotel offered an evening meal. It was our house and made us fall in love with the house. It is the best stay in wengen i would say. The property is well maintained and gives you the most fantastic view. There is nothing to complain about the property. The kitchen is fully equipped with everthing you need as an indian family. You can just be worry free and just reach there and stay as if you stay at home. Best stay in wengen and feel like home. Daniel and his team are exteremely helpful always happy to answer questions such as where to ski today, which day will be best day to visit the Jungfraujoch or to recommend restaurants for dinner. The hotel breakfast is an excellemnt Swiss breakfast and if you don't want to eat out there is a very resonably priced 4 course set menu dinner on offer and a good range of wines and beers. It is well located, a bit uphill, but only 8-9 min walk from Wengen train station. My room had an amazing mountain view, i cannot even describe how mesmerizing it was.
