The town was very quiet when we visited on a Sunday with few people around and most restaurants were closed. We ended up eating at a tourist place where the waiter was more interested in finishing his shift. We visited a Roman House of Mosaics museum which actually gave very little information and the mosaics were not very easy to see. The Roman exhibition and museum by the Porta Mina was far more interesting - I'd recommend visiting that one first. The cathedral was not at all welcoming at a cost of EUR 8, photography forbidden and the cathedral museum was very poorly presented. The Roman walls are quite astonishing and will take a good 30-40 mins to walk around. Be aware this town is built on a steep hillside.Guest review byTraceyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lugo is a stunning city surrounded by Roman walls that you can walk along on top. It's architecture is similar to Santiago de Compostela but as it doesn't have as many visitors doing the Camino it is a much more comfortable city to walk around. Lovely shops and good vibe in the local bars. and good traditional Galician food in the local restaurants. It's a safe city away from the blistering summer heat that other southern Spanish cities have to endure. A real hidden gem.Guest review byElaineIreland - 10.0

Very nice city with a lot of sightseeing. The roman wall is impressive (you can walk over for all the wall), the cathedral, Do Rato and Miño walk, the roman bridge, Madrid avenue, Aguas Ferreas Square, bars and restaurant are with very good price, and a free Tapa with a drink, and much more. Lugo is a very interesting destination for any person...
Lugo is a very interesting destination for any person interested in the history Of the Roman Empire. The medieval city is enclosed in the original Roman Wall built 2000 years ago. It is an only complete wall that stays intact for two millennia and there is a trail on the top of that wall that is very good for the walk in time. It is less than 4 kilometers long and offers many fantastic views on the city inside and outside. The city is very well maintained and was nicely decorated for the Christmas. Watch out for discounts as prices seem to vary and in peak periods it is not cheap but outside pricing is fair for what you get. Try to get a superior room on the frontside, a small upcharge is worth it. We took no breakfast as a good cafe is just opposite as are other options. Superb top class food. Bear in mind its difficult to find a good restaurant in Spain (unless in big city): most are bars and cafes. Location was good- 15 min walk to the walled city part. Car park is part of the hotel (underneath) and you can pay as part of the bill - abut 16 E a night. Free parking on the road but it was a hire car so... Nice big room.
