The Blossoming Costa Brava
Sweeping around a sandy bay backed by mountains, the fishing port of Roses has become one of the most popular Costa Brava resorts. This was partly due to El Bulli, one of the world’s best restaurants, which once graced a neighbouring village.
Although that restaurant serves no more, the town still has plenty of eateries and bars offering some of the area’s top nightlife. Some are by the long promenade whose palm trees are beautifully silhouetted at sunset. Around the Bay of Roses the headland becomes more rugged and the beaches more cove-like. In the opposite direction is large Roses marina, although the one in next door Empuriabrava is huge.
Watersports are very popular here and include diving and windsurfing. The Aqua Brava waterpark has a host of slides, rapids and a wave pool, and other entertainment includes karting and minigolf.
Above the southern end of town, overlooking the lighthouse, sit the star-shaped ruins of 16th-century Castell de la Trinitat. On the other side of Roses is the Ciutadella, a much larger site containing Greek and Roman remains and partly surrounded by medieval walls. Even older are the Creu d’en Corbertella megalithic structures, one of which is the largest in Catalonia.

Beautiful seaside town very clean. Lovely little shops & restaurants. You can enjoy a stroll along the sea front or take a boat trip along the coast to neighbouring villages or the mini train around the national park. There is a lot of history in the area you can visit the museum at the citadel and the neighbouring town of Castello de Emporium. If you like Salvador Dali you can visit his home in the qaint Village of Carques & the museum at Figueres. All very pretty towns. Everyone I met was enjoying themselves. We stayed at Canyelles, which is a bus ride or an hour walk from Roses. Canyelles is excellent and suits us fine. Roses itself is now too crowded and at night it is like a giant bazaar. No parking, it's like winning the lottery.
No parking, it's like winning the lottery. People were very friendly. Very hot in August. Beautiful sea line, sunsets are amazing. To get to Cap Norfeu took us three times to get there, so my advice- come early because it closes at 10.30 and reopens at 16.30. Citadel of Roses is an interesting place, but the best to visit it afternoon because it is very hot at noon. Near Citadel is a free parking. We like Rosa’s this was our 4th visit in 8yrs Best restaurant for us was puerto rica fish dishes amazing . The most colourful paella I have ever seen , absolutely fantastic flavours Also recommend the whole turbot cant wait to return . The promenade was marred by lunatics on electric scooters ,and street hawkers ,which are supposed to be illegal and heavy fines. Also youths setting off bangers to annoy tousists and locals alike. An occasional uniform prescence would easily stop this .This is our fourth stay at Roses and it would be a pity if it was allowed to detiorate from the usual lovely resort .Guest review byKevinFrance

We were met in person on arrival at the apartment and given a full brief of the apartment, and all of its facilities. The beds were extremely comfortable and the location was perfect for the beach and the old town of Roses, bars restaurants and shops but yet peaceful at the same time. we also had access to a garage for secure parking. The hotel was clean, in a great location on the seafront. Breakfast was more than sufficient. The rooftop pool was very clean but could do with more shaded areas. It was exceptionally hot for early July.
