Located in the Provence of France, the charming city of Arles is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List thanks to its stunning Roman monuments and rich history. This beautiful destination was once a great inspiration for important personalities through time, including the Emperor Constantine I and Vincent van Gogh.
Home to the Roman baths of Constantine, the necropolis of Alyscamps and the Church of St. Trophime, Arles is a perfect example of a city perfectly combining the ancient with the modern. Built about 2,000 years ago, the Roman Arena (Arles Amphitheatre) is an imposing landmark, hosting bullfights during the festival of Feria d’Arles.
The famous painter Vincent van Gogh stayed in Arles for almost a year and created about 300 paintings and drawings. Follow his steps and visit the places depicted in some of his masterpieces, like 'Starry Night Over the Rhone', 'Langlois Bridge', 'Night Café' and the 'Yellow House'.

Unfortunately, we only had two nights in our itinerary for Arles. It is a charming and elegant city that really deserves a few more days to explore, relax, and enjoy. The people were very kind and welcoming. The town is lovely.
The town is lovely. Enjoyed the Roman Colosseum, amphitheatre and baths. Visiting La Camargue our main reason for visiting Arles was a delight. However we found in general the food was a bit dissappointing. We visited the fabulous Luma Building which we loved also. I had a wonderful 4 days in Arles. Arles offers ancient sites, history , art and quality food. The city is ideal for walking and the monument and gallery passes are very good value for money. I visited Arles specifically to attend les Rencontres de la Photographie - a series of exhibitions scattered throughout the old sections of the town and it is a fabulous event, easy to walk between venues and to appreciate the whole tourist thing from the river to the park, the tower, the old factories, a number of the churches/monasteries/convents. If it rained you could spend the whole day in the salon reading, talking or just enjoying music they play. The location is perfect: 3-10 min on foot to most of the main attractions (arena, amphiteatre, l'Espace de Van Gogh .... and 15min to LUMA). As my room was already cleaned I was able to check-in earlier. The man at the reception was extremely kind and generous!
