The owners and their staff know their business very well, and work hard to present a very high standard (e.g., great breakfasts!). The owner, Allison and her Partner have a beautiful B&B. With lovely gounds. This was a last minute reservation for a one night stay, yet the hostess couldn't have been more welcoming. We were especially charmed by Teddy! Our room was large, comfortable and well appointed. My husband has trouble walking, so the first level room with it's own entrance was perfect for our needs. We arrived in the early evening, when most area restaurants were closed , but Allison worked her magic, making reservation for us at a nearby country club Hilton. The next morning, we ate a delicious full English breakfast in a beautiful garden setting. What a wonderful way to start our journey to Balmoral Castle! We visited The U.K. for a month, stayed in fancy hotels during our trip, but none compared to this haven. We did not want to leave! Serendipitous, is the word that comes to mind when thinking of our visit to this hidden gem! We hope to return one day soon! Thank you, Allison so very much for taking the time to visit with us, for your kindness, hospitality and all the little touches that made our stay so enjoyable. Best regards, The Ham Family

We went to Ballater to be close to Balmoral Castle, where we went to an artisans market on the grounds. We were there in October, so opening of other parts of the castle were not available, due to royal residence use. I would return to this beautiful part of Scotland again if given the chance, to see more of the castle.

Beautiful little town in a stunning location. The town is decorated with the most amazing hanging baskets. Several pubs, all seemed to be busy and offered good value food. The town is ideally located for exploring the beautiful area

A very scenic town centre.

A very scenic town centre. A good supermarket and several specialist shops (bookshop especially) . just try and avoid the sweetshop (far too tempting) Several nice restaurants and an excellent fish and chip shop. Bike hire by the old station and easy routes along the old line.

Ballater is a lovely village.

Ballater is a lovely village. Very clean and tidy as you would expect being so close to Balmoral Castle. Beautiful hanging baskets outside the shops Plenty of cafes and gift shops. Lovely village green around the Church in the centre of Ballater with seating areas . Free car park and free parking around the Church. Lovely village to visit or stay. We stayed overnight at The Barrel before visiting Balmoral Castle the following day.

It has been the most wonderful and comfortable place we have...

It has been the most wonderful and comfortable place we have stayed in on our trip we had been away for 4 weeks and this place by far the very best. Homemade cakes and a great breakfast. Highly recommend to everyone to stay, but you should stay a minimum of two nights.

perfect tranquil location within easy walking distance of lovely ballater. Dog friendly and good immediate local woodland walks. A great base if you want to sightsee, go walking or cycling on / off road. The hosts were very pleasant and the accommodation was very clean and well equipped. Also had a dishwasher which was nice. Parking was easy too with lots of space to do so. Price was really good for standard of accommodation

My room and bathroom were exceptionally clean, as was the whole of the hotel. The lady got up early, so she could make me an early breakfast. The staff were so friendly and the food was great. Nothing was too much trouble - even during a busy Bank Holiday weekend. I would definately stay there again. A lovely small hotel, right in the heart of the lovely village of Ballater.

Easy drive from The Braemar Gathering and close to Ballater for an evening meal. Our double room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a very sleek en-suite shower room. The friendly owner Kath was very welcoming and keen to ensure we had all that we required. We had a an enjoyable breakfast that was perfectly cooked and well presented.

The location was fantastic, beautiful walks on the doorstep. Riverside 3.5 mile walk into Ballater, the bus will drop you back at the hotel, cost about £5 Breakfast was continental with a wide choice, it would have been nice to have a warm boiled, they did served them cold.
