FAQs about hotels in Blackpool

Beside the Seaside, Beside the Sea

A favoured holiday spot since the Victorian era, Blackpool is a traditional English seaside town. Amusement arcades and crazy golf courses line the promenade and dotted between them are plenty of places to pick up fresh fish ‘n’ chips and Blackpool rock.

On the 5-mile sandy beach, children can enjoy Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides. Old-fashioned entertainment at its best. At the other end of the scale is the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a fairground complex comprising a variety of rides, including The Big One - once the world’s tallest and steepest rollercoaster. They actually had to get permission from nearby Blackpool Airport to erect it!

More seaside pursuits are on the town’s 3 piers, one of which is Grade II listed. However, the most recognisable landmark is the Blackpool Tower which houses a circus, 4D cinema and a world-renowned ballroom, to name a few. Modelled on the Eiffel Tower, it is spectacularly lit during the annual Blackpool Illuminations, when the whole town is bathed in bright lights. The trams plying the prom are also lit. Look out for the one shaped like a ship.

A popular stag and hen do destination, Blackpool offers accommodation ranging from North Shore hotels to South Shore B&Bs - see Booking.com for the best choice.

The best way to sum up our visit to Blackpool is that it is 2025 London prices for standards that peaked decades ago. Felt like everywhere I went I paid top price for sub standard, unclean and outdated rubbish.

Blackpool is always windy and rainy.

Blackpool is always windy and rainy. Illuminations are very much the same most years but still great to see. Lots of rubbish blowing around. Food places such as papas chippy and wetherspoons long queues to access. Blackpool is easy to get around walking, tram, buses or taxis. We choose to use the tram and walk to see the illuminations.

Very run down and dirty.

Very run down and dirty. Although we saw several cleaners in the centre doing a good job. Empty hotels and shops along the Golden Mile Plenty of places you can eat and some big named shops. Lights opposite the Tower were very good and although the Golden Mile was lit up, they were not as good or plentiful as in past years. Buses were plentiful and the drivers were very helpful.

Blackpool is a fun place to be for all ages no matter what time of year you visit, Lots of pubs and eating establishments some are a little expensive and some are cheap, it pays to look around and don't always go into the first place you see. There are always cheaper options to be found for the same drink or meal if your on a budget. Try pubs and eating establishments in the side streets or in the back streets away from the centre where you can buy a pint from as little as £1.75 and a burger for £1.50 Blackpool is just Blackpool and is a great place to visit

Unfairly underated by some.

Unfairly underated by some. It has entertainment with live shows, firework displays, cabaret shows and a beautiful promenade to walk along. Can be expensive on the promenade for treats, but two streets back, behind the promenade and, the prices are very good. If you want to dine out there are several good restaurants and quite a few pubs that have quite a high quality of food for the prices e.g. The Duke pub had very good food at £12 for two people and the amounts served were more than reasonable. Most of the pubs and clubs have cheaper prices than you might expect, but like anywhere you can spend a lot if you want to, but on the whole it's a much cheaper weekend than going out in some if not all of the major UK cities. Lots of renovation has been done over the years and it's getting nicer each year. It has it's own welcoming style and is one of my favourite affordable escapes. If the sun's out it's an even bigger bonous. But bring a cardigan or sweater if the weather is windy.
