Excellent service, very friendly atmposphere. Beautifully decorated stylish hotel with a lot of character. Very well located for day trips in the Scottish Borders. Rooms were very good, breakfast very good as well, dinner was excellent, they really cook very good here. Our host Sonny did eveything possible to make our stay a memorable one. Provided packed lunches for us every day, gave good advice on options for day trips, even provided ponchos and hats as some rain was expected. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

PERFECT is the only term that can qualify this outstanding establishment : impoising and manor like exteriorly, but happily surrounded by beautiful ground and flowers. Warm welcome on arrival, fantastic, spacious room where no comfort or detail is missing, very good bed AND armchairs, very quiet. Spacious and pleasant bar and restaurant, and the best food we’ve had among the 10 hotels we’ve stayed at during our trip. It is truly wonderful to end our journey on such a wonderful note. Thank you Glen Hotel and all its staff!

Breakfast was excellent. But the real prize was the magnificent, fully lined tweed drapes in the room -- an easily overlooked touch, but such exquisite fabric in a simple, cozy little hotel room, and such a Scottish touch, too! At least one night dnner was Michelin star worthy, and all meals were excellent.

Selkirk is not particularly special but it is perfectly...

Selkirk is not particularly special but it is perfectly located to visit a myriad of interesting places, the most special being the Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels. A must see, in my view even better than the Bayeux Tapestry. Melrose, Floors Castle, Peebles and many beautiful gardens are all nearby. Easy access to Edinburgh by road or train. 90 minutes to the wonderful Dumfries House.

A really nice town, lovely square and some interesting shops (although many don't open Monday as well as Sunday). Loch Carron Weavers on an industrial estate well worth a visit to see the tartans. Many Abbeys and stately homes, and nice riverside spots, within easy reach, and mountain areas to the west.

Selkirk is a pleasant, friendly Borders town.

Selkirk is a pleasant, friendly Borders town. There are strong associations with Sir Walter Scott and the town is a good location for visiting other Border sites of interest. Locally there are good walks and several areas of interest in walking distance. Being located in the Southern Uplands the town is quite hilly but the town centre offers easier walking. One downside is that it lies on the A7 a main route so expect some heavy traffic at times through the town centre. Even this can be of benefit as it also means there is a good bus service between Selkirk and Edinburgh as well as bus links to the wider Borders area via Galashiels so there is not necessarily a need for travel by car.

Selkirk had some nice walks.

Selkirk had some nice walks. We did.a forest walk and went around a loch as well. The town has many interesting houses, so we just walked around the town as it was pleasurable and easy to get around. The people in town were friendly and helpful. It was also a good place to stay to just visit other sites nearby. We ate our suppers at Heatherlie House Hotel where we stayed as they had an extensive menu and the food was delicious and not expensive. A truly memorable stay and visit.

Sonny met us with a warm welcome. He made a special effort to help mark our 40th wedding anniversary which we very much appreciated. Everyone in the hotel was friendly and helpful with excellent customer care. Being setback from the road made for a peaceful environment. The grounds were pleasant and well cared for although the weather did not help us fully enjoy them. We ate both breakfast and dinner in the hotel which were well cooked and tasty. Unlike many hotels there were two chairs in the bedroom not just one.

We did not realise the hotel was 15 miles from the town of Selkirk, (we were on a hiking trip) but the owner immediately offered to come and pick us up. The restaurant was closed because of her birthday, but she invited us to join the party and offered us a free meal. The only thing we had to do in return was sing karaoke:-) We had a lovely evening with very friendly people!
