We soon realised that Castleton was probably the best place...
We soon realised that Castleton was probably the best place to stay in the area. An excellent centre for walking and a bonus was the Tourust information Centre with its cafes. 7 pubs so finding one for a meal was not a problem. We went to one cafe down a side street and ate at t the George further along the same street. Both good. Also the sandwiches etc at the deli in the main street can be highly recommended We aim to return to Castleton. Small town, as a good base-location to walks to Mam tor (and back), the various Caverns (ticketed entry mostly), and the Cave Dale - a beautiful picturesque rocky trek with extremely steep slopes either side. Nearest train-station is at Hope which is a little over a mile's walk. Views of Mam Tor and sorrounding cliffs are amzingly breathtaking from this town.Guest review byKunalUnited Kingdom - 6.0

The pubs were fine and some decent beer options. On the Sunday night of a Bank Holiday weekend my friends and I went for dinner. Five of the seven pubs/bars were not serving food. One pub was only serving pizza. One restaurant was fully booked. I couldn't believe it. There were a lot of people like us looking for somewhere to eat. my only complaint regarding castleton,we couldent belive in the height of summer,the vast majority of the pubs were closing early,two pubs were closeing 8pm,theres only one pub open till 11.30 called the peak hotel,it was a life saver and a nice pub,so bear this in mind,if you like a pint after a days walkingGuest review bypeterUnited Kingdom - 10
