FAQs about hotels in Derby

Historic Pioneer with Noble Connections

Bordering the Peak District, pioneering Derby was the site of the first factory during the Industrial Revolution. The city was a silk producer and a former mill forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Derwent Valley Mills, lining the Derwent River between Derby and Matlock.

Also by the river is Darley Park which hosts an annual chamber orchestra concert. The city centre arboretum was England’s first public park, and Markeaton Park in the north-west has a light railway. Nearby is the university campus and 18th-century Kedleston Hall, a Palladian-style mansion involved in filming of ‘The Duchess’.

Another royal connection is Bonnie Prince Charlie who stayed at Exeter House. A replica of his room is in Derby Museum and Art Gallery, and there is a statue of him in Cathedral Square. Opposite is the oldest pub, the Dolphin Inn, but the best nightlife is around Friar Gate.

The nearby Cathedral Quarter is full of eateries and shops, and the Westfield Centre houses big name brands. The Grade II-listed Market Hall offers a range of stalls above underground tunnels which are supposedly haunted by one of Derby’s many ghosts.

Derby County FC play at Pride Park, near the train station and several hotels with parking. Booking.com also offers cheap apartments and guest houses near East Midlands Airport.

The area was pretty nice, nothing fancy where we were but easy to walk around and safe reliable public transport. We were able to get loads of different foods bits from cafes to restaurants to takeaways and deals, all of which was reasonably priced. The Derbion was great with a variety in the food hall; a great cinema with a wide range of films and comfortable seats; and loads of shops to fulfill any shopping needs.

Lovely staff went the extra mile to make my stay comfortable. Upgraded my room when they realised my age and mobility issues. I will always stay here when visiting Derby. The price was so reasonable for a hotel of this quality. It it literally a couple of minutes from town centre yet it is quiet. Top value thank you

Shopping is great in the centre of derby and watching the Crack heads can be entertaining. We have visited many times and have never had any problems with anyone. We had a game of crazy golf at Glory Holes which is always good fun. The Derbion shopping centre has a great range of shops and excellent food options in the food court. There is a cinema which has an arcade and crazy golf area. There are many places to have a nice walk and derby is a very nice location for exploring Matlock and other locations around the area. I would recommend derby as a place to visit for anyone who likes to shop and doesn't mind a scattering of homeless people. They all seem very friendly! I always have a great time.

We were in Derby to spend time with our grandchildren and there was so much to do there with them. We had family day passes on the busses and they loved the double Deckers and going to the various playgrounds and fun parks. Every day we found a different place to have lunch and there are so many to choose from.

Our stay in Derby was short but we were a bit disappointed . St Marys church and derby cathedral are stunning but theres not much else to see or do around the cathedral quarter .The streets seemed to be full of fast food outlets this made some of the streets look a bit tacky . We struggled to find any nice restaurants . Theres a big shopping centre which is much like every other big shopping centre , not really much else to say

It is a lovely city, full of cultural architecture. We were only there for one night, but did spend most of Sunday exploring the City. We ended up at the Museum of the Making. This is a very good Museum to visit. It's not you every day clinical museum exhibits, It's exhibits encourage you to think. all the items have a connection with Derby, some more obvious than others. Derby connections to the railway and aerospace is well catered for along with textiles. The Museum itself is located in a former Silk mill. We even had lunch at the museum, which was surprisingly very good, not your usual museum fair. The prices were quite reasonable as well.

(in Glasgow I was very disappointed with the accommodation and the cleanliness!) I will recommend the hotel in Derby to all my friends ! Kind regards, Marius.
