Ive visited before as I have friends and godchildren in the area. Don't expect the hustle and bustle of main towns, it has a very slow pace of life, shopping is limited and as I found the ferry's are not always reliable (I had been warned so had made alternative arrangments in the event that this was something that happened.). Locals are friendly and hlepful. The weather when I visited this time was scorching and it was pleasant to walk along the sea front, a great way to have a relaxing or energising walk and enjoy the scenery, whichever suits. A stunning, traditional Scottish town situated in absolutely beautiful surroundings (we were lucky to visit during unusually great weather). Having lived abroad for several years, it was fantastic to experience Dunoon and it's scenery. The Castle Museum is worth every penny of its £4 entrance fee. The views across Loch Eck are simply stunning, the food is of excellent quality, the bar is very well stocked, rooms are lovely and the hotel itself is full of old world scottish charm. The staff are extremely welcoming and can't do enough for you from the minute you arrive. The Whistlefield is a fantastic place to just sit and relax in the old world scottish atmosphere. The lodge itself was lovely, clean, spacious and well decorated with everything you needed in the kitchen to prepare a meal. Pucks Glen itself is directly behind the lodges and is stunning. Dunoon and several restaurants are a few miles South and the beautiful Benmore Gardens are just North. Cowal is a beautiful part of Scotland with an island feel.
