    Friendly host.

Friendly host. Had ground floor room which was well appointed, I was just staying overnight for busines but convenient for those looking to explore New Forest. Nice freshly cooked breakfast- no complaints all round.

Our main reason for staying was to attend the Southampton...

Our main reason for staying was to attend the Southampton Boat Show. This Guest House meant we could use the Hythe Ferry, and not get stuck driving in Southampton's heavy traffic. Convenience was therefore very good. Reviews we read before booking rated the Guest House highly, and that is why we booked. We fully realise that since early 2020, life for the owners of such properties has been very difficult. Even now sensible restrictions remain, and we fully complied, wearing a mask whenever out of our room. We perhaps expected too much. However, a friend runs a very successful B&B in mid Devon, at a similar cost to the Walcot House. She has won awards, and the standards of her rooms (in an old farmhouse), and the breakfast supplied to guests, is far and away superior to our experience at Fawley. The owners of Walcot House we are sure, are trying very hard, but the experience for us as guests was rather uninspiring, lacking any warmth, and no apologies for a faulty bathroom light (bulb replaced), and the lack of hot water on the last morning. We are sorry to be writing in this way, but hope that these comments can be seen as constructive, rather than merely complaining.
