We always enjoy Matlock and visit approx twice per year. Nice walks, very good fish and chips. Aquarium well worth a visit. Would like to go on cable car but have to buy a ticket to include all other attractions at the top. Nice town surrounded by beautiful scenery. Lots of choice for food/drinks and easy access to all activities the Peak District has to offer. it is a small town with character and charm with a great selection of independent bars and restaurants and pubs , where you can eat drink and be merry. We had an amazing three night stay - the weather was 30degC and more every single day. The staff at the hotel were absolutely spot on - really helpful, very friendly and happy to chat. The pool is amazing and it was great to see how popular it is. Great walking routes from the hotel as well and a good bus service - we dined in Matlock one night. Quite handy for Donington Park too. The open air geo thermally heated (but chilly) pool behind is free to guests and that is a real bonus if you like to swim (vs splash). We upgraded and got a nice room overlooking the gardens and the pool, the first room we saw was poky with no view other than internal courtyard / roof top.
