We had a wonderful two night stay at Maplestone. The location was terrific, up a quiet lane, but only a short walk from the center with many restaurant options. The historic house has been beautifully restored, furnished with antiques, creating a home that exudes comfort and relaxation. Our host Alan was so welcoming and engaging, taking the time to make an afternoon tea and sit with us in the quiet garden courtyard asking about our travels and experiences. He shared many nearby options to help us get the most of our visit to the sea. What an amazing retreat in the middle of Shelton Mallet.

Our host, Katie, and her family were very welcoming and helpful! The room was spacious and clean, perfect for 2 people. All the essentials were there, and we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast items that were provided. I especially loved the location which was quiet with a lovely view yet still close enough to go into town and explore during the day. The outdoor view by the fire pit is absolutely stunning! We enjoyed our stay and would love to stay again in the future.

Liked · EXCEPTIONALLY PEACEFUL AND CLEAN ACCOMMODATION.

Liked · EXCEPTIONALLY PEACEFUL AND CLEAN ACCOMMODATION. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. From the moment we we arrived at Maplestone we were made to feel really welcome. Alan showed us to our room and made us a pot of tea with cake and sat with us in the garden, great service. Alan is an excellent host with a friendly, professional manner with great local knowledge. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Exceptional breakfast was plentiful and delicious with great choice. The property has a beautiful, quiet garden with tables and chairs to relax in. Would definitely stay again. Well done Alan and thank you for your making us feel so welcome.

We only came because we were going to a funeral, shepton doesn't really have lots of pubs/restaurants to go to, the bar at the shrubbery and the club were the best.,it's difficult to get taxis, does have Interesting buildings to visit church/prison.

Apart from using the B&B at Maplestone as a base for a two day visit to Longleat, we didn't really explore anywhere else other than visiting two local pubs to have our evening meals i.e the Mendip Inn (twice) and the Thatched Cottage - the food in both was extremely good and the staff in both places couldn't have been more helpful.

Shepton Mallet has some lovely old buildings and much to see of interest in the area. Not much in the way of nightlife but we weren't looking for that anyway. Some of the shops /pubs are sadly empty but that seems to be happening everywhere these days.

The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down.

The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down. Collet park is nice just off the centre. It feels safe, family friendly. It is very convenient for access to Wells and the palace and Cathedral, East Somerset Railway is great. The prison is worth a visit. It gives you a picture of life through prisons of the 1600's through to second world war executions.

Tired old hotel with rooms with peeling paint, broken cupboards and windows and dirty curtains. Had to go up 4 flights of stairs to get to attic room that was being used by the construction staff renovating the spa. Food was limited choice and of porr quality for the money that was being asked and charged. No phone in the room so had to climb up and down 4 flights of stairs to get any service. Issues not addressed and had to check out early, extremely poor hospitality. Do not tale bookings if you cannot provide a basic level of service.

The hotel is in a good location, close to the town centre. The staff were friendly and the food was lovely at the hotel. Breakfast was plentiful. Ample parking. The only thing I would say is that the decor, hotel interior and bedrooms need a bit of TLC. The bathroom carpets need to be removed as not very hygienic. The bed was too soft for me but husband was fine with it so that is personal preference. Not much happening in Shepton Mallet itself but nearby Wells was lovely and worth a visit

Lovely friendly and accommodating owners. Great service and lovely food. I was made very welcome. My room had everything that I needed and the bed was very comfortable. There is free on-site parking and the location is perfect for the Bath and West showground and the Glastonbury area. I would definitely stay there again.
