We loved the hike up to Palamidi Fortress & the views are even better. The walk on the shore path was incredible as you are greeted by kitties, cactus pear & turquoise waters! We went to NERAKI BEACH & enjoyed swimming with the locals & some little cute striped fishies:) The Saturday Food Market & flea market was also fun. You may snag a designer shirt for 1 Euro or grab whatever produce looks ripe to eat. Very pleasant surprise - nice old town, well maintaned or taken care of, with small cafes, boutiques and nice, flowery streets. The Palamidi Castle towering over the city provides beautiful views, and the pedestrian routes at the coast are breathtaking. Nafplio was a blast. Great food and a chill city. There is the Palamidi fortress to explore as well as the AcroNafplo fortress. Bourtzi fortress is picturesque. We parked and didn't get the car until we left as parking is a challenge.Guest review byJohnUnited States - 8.0
Nafplio was an excellent place to end our three week visit...
Nafplio was an excellent place to end our three week visit to Greece. It was relaxed and less chaotic then Athens. The old town is lovely to explore. Palamidi Fortress is a challenge and definitely worth the climb. Bourtzi Castle (!) is a short boat ride away and is a wonderful miniature version of a fairy tale Castle. Day trips to interesting sites are possible and ferry trips to some of the Greek Islands can be arranged from Nafplio. We went to Mycenae and Epidaurus with a locally hired guide who arranged taxi transport for us. Some of our group went on a catamaran evening sail and really enjoyed it. This was our third time in Nafplio, we keep coming back. It's got a lot of character, with ample good restaurants and shops. It's touristy, but not overly so. And it's a great base for visiting this side of the Pelleponesos.Guest review byJackNetherlands
