The island’s capital has an incredibly rich and fascinating history — a blend of ancient, medieval, and Ottoman influences that you can truly feel in every street of the Old Town. Rhodes has the most extensive historic walls and historic buildings in phenomenal shape that I have ever seen in Europe. It is simply stunning. That said, in season, Cruise ships disgorge thousands upon thousands of passengers each day and even in October- when we went - it was packed. I think it would be hell in July and August. The historic little streets were full of shops, cafes and restaurants, but you could still get a sense of what the town was like centuries ago. Definitely worth a visit, as was Lindos for which we hired a car for only £40 for the day. We paid around £65 per room for one night, with breakfast included. For that price I don’t think I could have a single complaint. Staff were friendly, rooms were fairly basic but clear and pretty modern, beds were comfy and location was very good. We did’nt use the pool, but the sunbeds looked like the comfiest I’ve ever seen, with about 1 foot thick pillows / toppers on them.
