A City of Two Halves

With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.

Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it has the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage. Some unique points of interest are Heroes Square and the Museum of Terror, reminders of the city’s more turbulent past.

Much like in Vienna further up the Danube, coffee and cake is practically an institution in Budapest. And there’s nowhere better to try them than Gerbeaud - the elaborate décor alone makes this café well worth a visit.

To really feel like a local, make a trip to the thermal baths. The relaxed Gellért Baths are a triumph of Art Nouveau grandeur and, based on their sheer size, you can't miss the outdoor Széchenyi Baths. If unusual nightlife is your thing, the club nights at these baths are great fun.

With an impressive range of Budapest hotels, apartments and hostels available in this city of 2 halves, Booking.com makes it an easy choice.

Never go to Budapest. There are many reasons for this.

Never go to Budapest. There are many reasons for this. It's a city that's way too expensive. There are people and institutions entirely intent on taking tourists' money. It's also a city with significant security issues. The municipality and transportation services are incredibly poor. The municipality is completely focused on fining tourists and generating revenue through them. I definitely recommend Prague over Budapest. You can see all of Budapest's attractions in just a few hours. Vienna and Prague are two cities comparable to Budapest, and both are much, much better than Budapest in every way. I absolutely do not recommend Budapest. I would never recommend Budapest to anyone.

The food was EXCEPTIONAL EVERYWHERE, though the service was erratic and inexplicably slow in famous cafes with coffee that was always lukewarm and not piping hot. LOVED the thermal pools, we spent hours immersing ourselves in the range of bathing temperatures, would DEFINETLY REPEAT next time ! However, the Ruin bars were a significant disappointment, seemed to be an artifice for tourist instagrams. Astounding architecture and magnificent views. We decided entrance prices were too exaggerated to go inside many official historical buildings, but lovely from the outside. Just walk and absorb the views AND EAT DEFINETLY a culinary DELIGHT !

Absolutely fantastic city for culture, history, and to enjoy the Danube. The city is buzzing with music and art - we pretty much had live music every night over dinner. The Fisherman's Bastion and the Matthias Church were absolute highlights. The parliament building is the most beautiful parliament building you'll ever see. The cruise is super worth it. Hungarian cuisine is also super underrated and we recommend you try lots of it - you will not be disappointed.

I have now been twice and seen most of the cultural hotspots. This time we went to go to the ballet at the Opera HOuse. Performance very good and theatre very comfortable. Lots of choice eating out - for high end cuisine recommend Textura. Tasting menu with wine pairing a genuine gastronomic experience.

One of the most beautiful places in Europe.

One of the most beautiful places in Europe. Definitely recommend visiting. Most if not all people we met could speak very good English. It was easy to get around with the bus or metro. All easy to understand. Food was great without exception. 10 out of 10 for Budapest from me.

Easy to find, just a minute away from the tram that takes you to the city centre for 25 min. There is a shopping centre within 5 min drive with a car. Next to the hotel there is a winery where you can buy Hungarian sparkling wine. The rooms are good enough with spacious bathrooms and plenty of towels. The rooms have a balcony with private jacuzzi that you can use. The water temperature is 40 degrees celsius. The parking is big and free (a rare finding in Budapest).

We are a couple from Noway that stayed from thu-mon. Very nice hotel. Must be a pretty new hotell. Very good breakfast. Location is good and central close to the Opera wich is nice to use as a reference point. Metro to Széchenyi bath is close. Just use the opera station. Not far to walk down to city centre. Or use a kickbike. If we go back to Budapest we would probably use this hotel again.
