Payangan is about 20 - 30 minutes out of Ubud, depending on traffic. It is an excellent introduction to Balinese village life and the 'real' Bali. There are no facilities except some basic little general stores, and no ATM in the village. Outside of the hotels, there are no restaurants. The area is spectacularly beautiful however it cops a lot of rain and there can be land slides which cut road access. Our hotel (Adiwana Dara Ayu Villas) was a long way from other properties, so eating options (hotels, restaurants, local warungs) were non existent and sadly as the food in our hotel was abysmal (even the Indonesian was done badly) we skipped eating meals which diminished the pleasure of the holiday.Guest review byPenelopeAustralia

I don’t think we have slept this peacefully in our whole lifetime. The staff are so beautifully accommodating and the area is bliss. It is not close to Ubud centre but, for us, we preferred the serenity of 5 days in this beautiful landscape. Yuni, a driver who took us around when needed was amazing.
