If you are in Pisa then the first stop is probably to snap a memorable picture of the famous Leaning Tower. Arrive early and you just might get a chance for a solo shoot! Go beyond this legendary experience and discover a maze of ancient cathedrals, buildings and squares in this historic town.
From the Pisa Centrale Train Station, the 30-minute walk to the Campo dei Miracoli is along a pedestrianised street packed with shops and restaurants. If you head outside the touristy area you will start to uncover the atmosphere created from the some 60,000 students who study here.
Appreciate masterful art at Museo di San Matteo and Romanesque architecture at the San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno, San Michele in Borgo and San Paolo Churches. If your feet are tired, then hop on and off one of the site-seeing buses to get a different look at the the Piazza dei Miracoli or Cathedral of St. Ranieri.

I liked Pisa more than I was expecting.
I liked Pisa more than I was expecting. It is a very old city with a nice atmosphere and lots of history. The area around the tower is very pretty and well maintained. There are lots of restaurants in the local area and plenty of more choice of cuisine in the rest of the city, if you are prepared to seek them out. The area around the tower is very crowded at all hours of the day, but then that's what everyone comes to see and take photos of. Pisa is an easy city to walk around and the streets seemed safe, even late at night. The city is very easy to get to from the airport, the PISMOVER monorail into the city is fast and relatively well priced. The tower is then about a 20 minute walk from the station through a very attractive cityscape. We also visited Lucca, about 30 minutes by train from Pisa Central Station. Food is good, and the area around the tower is very nice; however, the city is quite small, traffic is heavy, and taxis are expensive. You could wait more than half an hour for a taxi, as they are always busy, and ride-hailing apps do not work very well. Only Uber Black is available, so expect to pay over 40 euros for short distances and experience long wait times. In my opinion, one day is more than enough to visit the city. There aren’t many hotel options, and most are small residential style hotels with only a few rooms. These accommodations are often not very clean, air conditioning usually doesn’t work, breakfasts are generally poor, and service is very limited.Guest review byHugo ZeaNetherlands - 10.0

Pisa is so much more than just the leaning tower. The whole cathedral complex is wonderful. It is well worthwhile staying in Pisa to enjoy the whole experience after the crowds go home (or before they arrive). The entire place is like a film set. I flew to Pisa to trek through the Cinque Terre. The city is home to more than just the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. It also boasts numerous monuments to prominent Italians and beautiful ancient architecture. In the city, you can buy groceries at supermarkets or visit a café to sample traditional Tuscan cuisine, drink delicious coffee, and sample desserts. I ate at the café "Bar & Food 62."
