We spent two nights here as a couple. The staff greeted us kindly and were very accommodating and helpful. The property is beautiful and overlooks Mt.Aso. We decided to use the grill our first night and they set up everything for us and even recommended a store where we could go to buy meat and other supplies. (We forgot to buy grilling utensils, the staff let us borrow some :), but I would recommend bringing your own. The meat was delicious and it paired well with the atmosphere of the property. My husband and I don't speak Japanese really but the staff worked with us to communicate in Korean/English. We had the twin bed room and it was very nice. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning made it very nice. The room had a bathtub and we took a bath both nights it was so relaxing. The whole cabin had a wonderful woody smell. After dinner we went outside and went star gazing. The night air was crisp and the sky was beautiful. Mosquitos were minimal and the night air was full of the sounds of the forest. We could even see the milky way! We also woke up early to watch the sunrise over Mount Aso right from the deck in front of our room. The view was breathtaking~ Overall I'd highly recommend staying here if you want to experience the Japanese countryside the right way!

The couple who live in and run the ryokan vacation stay, were incredibly kind and helpful. It’s clear they have a strong sense of hospitality and go above and beyond to make their guests feel comfortable — from offering several types of shampoo, conditioner, and soap so everyone can find a scent they love, to providing a fully equipped kitchen open for everyone’s use. The house is large and spacious, and our daughters absolutely loved it, running around happily. In addition, the home itself is beautiful — an authentic and immersive traditional Japanese house. We would be happy to stay here again someday.

    The visit to Mount Aso and walking there is a great experience and the bus from Aso railway station up to the volcano makes the visit easy. A bit too many people at the crater but fortunately less on th longer hike.

    Great views. Great trip.

    Great views. Great trip. Only disappointment is the blue "lake" in Nakadake Crater. All the pictures show the "lake" while to my understanding it was destroyed during the 2016 earthquake. It was what drawn my attention to this location to begin with, so it was disappointing not seeing it. All these pictures should be replaced with what currently is there, not what used to be there.

    We had a great stay at this hotel! The staff were incredibly helpful and kind — they even assisted us with reserving a restaurant since we don’t speak Japanese, which we really appreciated. The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable, with a nice, decent setup that made us feel right at home. The common area was also large and inviting, and they offered free drinks and coffee, which was a lovely touch. Also, they provided free parking. Overall, a great experience and we’d definitely stay here again!

    We arrived to ASO city somehow when travelled over Japan, it`s a small village and this hotel (rekan if this word in English is correct) is great. We arrived about 00-00 and still met a very nice man who helped us to get the keys and showed the rooms, etc. Saunas there are really great and you feel like a Samurai in Rekan and Sauna. Great people as always in Japan, I enjoyed my staying in this hotel.

    We liked the crab buffet and drinks. The hotel is large and many accessories. Though we can't see Aso mountaun this time due to Typhoon, the view from restaurant and room would be beautiful.
