The location, room, garden has awesome atmosphere- I loved the meditation session and the fire ritual! We stayed for two nights and took evening cemetery tour which was informative and mysterious at the same time! Dinners are superb! I booked family room for two of us and it was great and spacious. I would recommend this place for anyone interested in Buddhism or with appreciation of esoteric teachings. Staff is caring and attentive!

Parking right in front, very clean and the food vegetarian food was wonderful. The temple itself is beautiful, and I highly recommend the morning prayer service which is partially in English. There was a female monk that chanted beautifully! Make sure you check in as early as possible to get the full experience.

This was honestly an unforgettable experience. Paola provided the most amazing customer service and worked so hard to create the most comforting atmosphere you could imagine. This beautiful japanese home was spotless and anything I could think of was provided and included in the price. Couldn't recommend enough to anybody looking to spend time in the beautiful Koyasan with a spectacularly kind host. I hope to come back someday not only to experience the lovely town but to connect again with the lovely human being which is Paola. One night was not enough

Koyasan is a historic, spiritual, naturally beautiful location. The ability to be around active temples and attend fire ceremony was unforgettable. The information center and excellent bus system made it easy to navigate. However, if you like to walk, most sights are easily walked to, as it is quite flat. There were several nice coffee houses and the place that offers night tours of Okunoin also is a bar in the evening, serving excellent local craft beers. A surprise.

I came here for the history and the experience of staying in a monastery/pilgrim lodging, but I left with much more than that, as all the people I met here were wonderful, from fellow travelers to local cafe owners. One word of advice would be to take your time exploring Oku no In cemetery, as it's worth a good long contemplative walk.

Thoroughly enjoyed experiencing how the monks live and eat.

Thoroughly enjoyed experiencing how the monks live and eat. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, wondered into the info centre Saturday & they were very helpful. Walked through the cemetery & then had lunch in one of the cafes open. Not many open on a Saturday or Sunday. Sunday a.m we experience the Ceremony half by the Monks in the main temple. Wouldn’t visit again in the winter as it’s extremely cold.

Okunoin cemetery --meditative walk-- was lovely.

Okunoin cemetery --meditative walk-- was lovely. Would have enjoyed having more time to visit the town. We only stayed one night (which is good, because it was very expensive). However, the train logistics from Okayama meant that we ararived in Koyasan about 2pm and so had very little time to see it. We left after lunch the following day. Two fuller days and one night would have been ideal.

Staying at the temple was a delightful experience.

Staying at the temple was a delightful experience. The food was different but very good, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Attending the morning prayer was another highlight, providing a truly memorable experience. The location was excellent, being very close to the bus stop. The staff were extremely nice and accommodating, allowing us to drop off our luggage before the check-in time. Although everything was great, I personally didn't like the heater in the room. I think it uses some kind of oil, and for me personally, the oil smell was a little too strong. Next time, I would prefer a room with an attached washroom. Since it's an old temple, it doesn't have central heating, which is understandable, but it gets a little cold outside of the room when going to use the washrooms. The rooms aren't that comfortable, but we already knew that since we went for the experience, not for comfort. Just wanted to add that!

Nature and spirituality

Nature and spirituality We ended our 3 week trip to Japan with 2 nights in Koyasan at a buddhist temple. It was a magical place, completely different from everything we had visited in Japan beforehand. The temples with their architecture, the local food and the kind locals really made this an unforgettable experience. On our last day we went for a hike on the Women´s trail, had a great lunch close to the Daimon gate and took a 2h walk through the Okunoin cementary which is one of the most incredible places I have been so far. Go without any expectations and it will be the a unique experience!

It was an amazing experience doing shukubo in this amazing temple. The room was great, it had heating (it was so cold outside), yukatas, toothbrush. And it was so beautiful, it really felt like staying at old Japan. We had courtesy tea and sweets, the room had a mini garden you could look at, and it was super spacious and had everything to make you travel in time. And we didn't feel it was expensive. The restrooms were great and the breakfast was nice. An unforgetable experience truly, and Koyasan's a super beautiful place.

- Beautiful Place with a very authentic and relaxing ambiance. It's not a hotel but a Temple in which you are staying. - Beautiful room with wonderful view on garden. The room was a work of art on its own. - Private Toilet available in the room. - Free WiFi. - Nice Breakfast and Dinner included. Both were vegetarian but tasty nevertheless. - Clean rooms. - Airconditioning. - Wonderful meditation sessions you can have together with monks.

This property offers a unique experience, staying at a Buddhist Temple. The half board inclusion is Japanese vegan food, reflective of what the priest and monks eat every day. It was well prepared and enjoyable.Although they don’t consume alcohol it can be purchased at a reasonable price during dinner. The spacious accommodation is operated by trainee monks who were very friendly and make us feel most welcome.

The hotel is quilt an experience to stay in a formeer pilgrim’s lodge. Very authentic place with their OWN tempel onsite. Breakfast and dinner were included but we didn’t like it a bit. Parking is free. Nice is the location directly across the street from one of the main temples. The prayer ceremonie at 7 am is nice to experience once.
