Machida has everything you need for shopping plus the Odakyu Line into Shinjuku or the Yokohama Line into Yokohama if you need to hit the big time. Still comoared to most North American towns, Westerners will think Machida is HUUUUGE and super busy. For Kanto region I'd saw it's a hub for Kanagawa but manageable. Food choices at and around the station are excellent. Hotels are way cheaper than in central Tokyo yet you are only 30 to 60 mins on any train to wherever you need to go. Direct buses from Narita and Henda airports as well so no need to deal with hauling luggage on trains. Or just takyubin (courier) luggage to Mahcida from airport.Guest review byBDonutCanada - 8.0

Well, since I am still in Machida currently, but at different accommodations, I can recommend this city if you don't want the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, but relatively close to Tokyo which I believe Tokyo proper is about an hour train ride to get to. I guess I would classify this place as a suburb of Tokyo as it is in the Tokyo Prefecture. I have eaten at several restaurants and the food was great to me, although I didn't eat a lot. I have been going to Seiyu (Formerly Walmart Japan) and a 100 yen shop called Daiso frequently and the people are very nice and helpful. It is very easy to get around Machida as they have excellent train and bus service to where ever you want to go to. The train station in Machida is huge and I think it is hub point in the western Tokyo prefecture. I have been doing a lot of walking. I could find any negative thing to write about. The city was great and I was blown away by the friendly nature of the people there. Shops were a plenty, and food places, you could dine somewhere different every night and still not go to everywhere . Google maps gets you anywhere you need to go including the trains, so a trip to Tokyo city is easy to navigate with trains on time, every time.Guest review byEVANAustralia
