One of the best hotel experiences I've ever had!! Stayed here for two nights and it was the highlight of my trip to Sri Lanka. The hotel itself is absolutely amazing. Beautifully decorated with lovely views and peaceful surroundings with many birds to see. They had recently had some wildfires nearby so apparently in normal times you can see even more wildlife than what I saw during my stay. There is also a stunning waterfall nearby (almost in the hotel grounds) that the staff take you to and that you can have completely to yourself or perhaps with a couple of locals. I also did a hike with the staff up to the mountain behind the hotel which was great. Then afternoons spent lazing in the pool, chatting to the staff and with complimentary High Tea as I watched the mist float through the mountains. There were no mosquitos in that area too which meant that they could have the large windows open (even at night!) with one whole side of the hotel open to the fresh air and views. There are only two rooms in the hotel, though they have plans to build another couple of buildings in the future (though also with a very secluded feel). I was the only one there during my stay which meant I had the whole place to myself 😍 The best thing about Capoe though is the staff. Isham, Eranda, the wonderful chef and the gardener who guided the hikes. They were all so friendly and attentive and really made my stay, especially as I was a solo traveller and they were very friendly and chatty (though also give you your space when you need it). I've never had a private butler before, let alone one that is trained in both wildlife spotting and making cocktails! Thanks so much Isham, you made my stay really special 🙏🏼 Can't wait to come back on my next visit to Sri Lanka! ❤️

Mountain Paradise Bliss occupies the upper floors of Nilowin Glenanore guesthouse (managed by another member of the same family). It has a quiet location on the edge of a tea estate near Adisham monastery, about 3km from Haputale town. The rooms are large, modern and well-equipped, with private bathrooms. The balconies have wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Tasty local meals are available. Shan and his wife Piyumi are charming young professional hosts who can arrange excursions and hikes (including Horton Plains, Lipton’s Seat, Ella, Pekoe Trail). I have stayed here 4 times and am already planning my next visit.

Great choice for Haputale. Good location, good breakfast and dinner, possibility of refilling your bottles with purified water (less plastic), great view (and possibility to sit in- or outside) and good facilities in room and bathroom. Next to that very useful help by the young man and he also arranged some things for very reasonable prices. And his mother cooked great meals! So it doesn't happen too often, but for us this was 10 out of 10! Really recommended.

Host is great, helped a lot with planning the days around Haputale, prepared welcome tea for us and early breakfast to go, arranged the tuk tuk to see the sunrise at Liptons seat. First day it was really misty so didn’t see the view, but the other day it was clear and beautiful!

Awinco Rest Inn A truly wonderful home from home place to stay in Haputale. Haputale is like Ella was 10 years ago before being overrun by western style eateries and coffee shops. So if you prefer a more authentic Sri Lankan mountain experience definitely visit Haputale while it remains this way. This guest house has immaculately clean rooms with a mountain facing balcony to take in the breathtaking views Haputale has to offer. The ensuite bathroom has an instant hot water heater so you can always benefit from a hot shower after a hike. The hosts Priyantha and his wife Nora are some of the kindest and most hospitable people we met on our 6 week tour of Sri Lanka. Plus Nora’s cooking is incredible! Without a doubt the best rice and curry and Kotthu we have tasted yet. Nora is even willing to share her culinary secrets by kindly offering a cooking class so you can see her work her magic in the kitchen. A take home from the class is definitely the high quality organic ingredients in her food…as well as her magical skills of course! Priyantha is a true gentleman. He has a wealth of knowledge about the local area and is delighted to offer advice on your day trips to ensure they go smoothly and without incurring unnecessary costs for guides. He can give you detailed instructions so you can confidently go on your own adventures. Priyantha also has a wonderful little book of walks with hand written instructions and clippings of maps to allow you to share in his local knowledge and the past experiences of his other guests. A truly charming guest house, breathtaking views and the best hosts you could ever wish to meet. Highly recommended!
