It could do with a day tripper public transport travel card. But trips are only €1. Also there's no fully labelled transport map with route numbers on it. Daugavpils is struggling economically, but has a charming and mostly well-maintained 19th century center, a fascinating multicultural character, and lovely green open spaces, including forests and a lakeshore resort area on Lake Stropu. The Mark Rothko Arts Center is a major modern art museum, and well worth a visit. A hidden gem of Latvia that is worth the visit for tourism and business alike. There are quite many nice restaurants and bars on both side of the river while majority are located on one bank of the river but it's still worth the walk/drive to the other side. There are many hidden attractions for tourists and local authority web page with multi language support is a great portal to rely on. Great travel destination for tourism and business alike. Worth a detour to visit one of a kind military Fortress just a short stroll from the city centre with lots to see and many museums to visit and food to sample. Great eating places at the river beach just across the bridge from the city centre and another great selection in the centre at the walking street. Daugavpils is not a huge city, but for 1 or 2 days it surely has its charme. The city centre's architecture is quite picturesque, and don't miss out on the churches and the synagogue. (It is worth sending an e-mail and asking for a visit, even though the guide's English is a bit rusty. Nevertheless a very positive experience.) You have to see the geographic map of Daugavpils to understand its traditional significance as a city that connects four major cities in the region - the city has everything you need - and all in few minutes walking from each other - and if you compare the prices with that of RIGA - well minus 40% easily.. I loved that it’s very clean, very modern, all the appliances and decorations are new. This place has the best shower in Latvia and an amazing bathroom. The host was very helpful and accommodating, they are really nice people. I will only stay in this place when I visit Daugavpils. Hotel has free parking in the backyard and is 20 meters away from the main pedestrian Riga street. After booking they sent an explanation how to get to the parking (which is not that hard, you should park near the white wall).
