This is a truly special hotel in an amazing location. Every detail is considered, from the room design, the textiles (wool of course!), the meals, the spa, and the service. We have stayed at many luxury hotels around the world and this is a truly memorable place. Also the staff is very kind and helpful. Highly recommend!

Found this place somewhat randomly and spent 3 night in their basic rooms, with the deck. The architecture, interior design, food, and most importantly service were impeccable and very high value for the money we spent. Especially the staff.. they went above an beyond to make sure you felt welcome and pampered. Great location if you want to spend a bit of time away and up in the mountains (hills) of Portugal. Highly recommended. p.s. We did make a stop for dinner at the higher rated (5 star) hotel owned by the same group. This location compared to that felt nicer. Both the interior design and people felt a lot warmer here.

Magnificent! That's the best description for this restored 3 bedroom 19th century mansion! Huge rooms with huge ceilings, comfortable beds, decorated moldings, period furniture, spacious kitchen, spacious bathroom, tons of bath towels, full cooking supplies, grand hallway, private garden/yard with traditional cement wading/soaking pool, fast wifi, gracious and helpful host - and all of those traits are just the beginning. The local hiking is tremendous, and short drives away are historical villages and the tallest peak in Portugal where you can sample various meats, cheeses and pick up a 100% wool blankets for practically nothing. In short, this is one of the rarest gems in the rental world!

Not too much to do in the fall. Quiet city. Pretty city from far views in the mountain, very few places where you can try cheese selections with good wine. The wool factories are a key attraction like Burel. Finding great servings of the Serra da Estrela cheese should be easier.

We left a day early because the town is quite remote and we were keen to move on. We are on a month long tour of Portugal though so a day didn’t make much difference to us. There isn’t much to do in Manteigas itself. Having said that, the guide in the local tourist office is exceptionally helpful and very knowledgeable about the region. There are some beautiful views as you drive in and out of the town.

Great base to visit the Serra de Estrela national park , plenty of nature trails to walk and lots of sites to see . Restaurant places can be hard to find at times , i did end up with a pot noodle in my room one night ( a saturday night on along bank holiday weekend ) as we couldn´t get in a restaurant anywhere .

Beautiful spot, located in a fantastic glacial valley.

Beautiful spot, located in a fantastic glacial valley. Make sure you go to Ecola where they make the blankets that you see in all the shops in Lisbon, we went to look at the shop and ended up in being given a guided tour of the factory by the owner. He explained all about the colour of the wool and the different types of sheep and the huge number of processes they go through to make them. Manteigas is a really nice place to visit, local people are very friendly, and the town is well organised and clean, the restaurants are very good, but what is really special is the location, you are surrounded by amazing walks in the hills, the woods above the town are spectacular and I have never seen so much water, its everywhere.

Perfect tranquil environment to relax or to detox from toxic urban noises. The fresh mountain air rejuvenates you! The goats passing by in the evening with the shepherds is pure bliss! All shop owners were kind and helpful! Locals are friendly and helpful when asking about locals trails! My new place of solace.

We spent 3 nights here at end November, the weather was...

We spent 3 nights here at end November, the weather was pretty wet so we didn't do much walking. Enjoyed a Cheese-tasting evening, visits to the Thermal Baths and quick visits to the 2 wool factories. There's a surprising amount to do and see, we loved it.

Hotels is located on a hill overlooking the city of Manteigas and the hill/forest behind it. Room was spacious and clean with heating working properly (it was winter and drizzle / snow). Bed was comfortable. There's plenty of space for parking and the staff was very attentive and nice. The restaurant in the hotel gets busy for dinner, so if you want to eat there make sure to have a reservation. Breakfast was simple but good with a lot of products from the area (cheese, honey).

The hotel is very cozy and beautiful, nice spa, rooms are spacious enough and with all comforts. The hotel staff was helpful and attentive to detail, we got a welcome afternoon coffe and snacks which included different types of delicious handmade food and beverages, then welcome drinks before dinner where we were offered Porto wine. The hotel staff took great care of all guests. Amazing hotel, I'd love to go back, very much recommended!

The location is great, from our room we were facing the other side of the mountain where Manteigas is located. The view is fenomenal also because of the giant window on the room. The room and bathroom are big enough and comfortable for two. The hotel itself is very cozy and clean. Also the staff are very welcoming.

Fantastic place. A mansion located in center of Manteigas. The building is from XVI and XVIII century, and inside you feel like in palace. There is even bilard room. Breakfast was excellent, with good choice of hams and cheeses.
