The Lars Lerin art gallery has beautiful paintings of Swedish landscapes by him. Boat trips from Innre Hamn (Inner Harbour) take you on trips out to islands and around town on the river for the price of a bus fare. Only in the summer months though. Walk along the river for beautiful views, see the old church, town hall etc. Plenty of cafes and restaurants especially around the town square. Karlstad is the biggest little city in Sweden and a joy to visit. What other city with <100,000 population even has its own opera house and cathedral? A small-big town with many cozy coffee places and great restaurants. The architecture is beautiful and the town is built in a comfortable way so you get to be in many parks and river along with shopping centers and places to eat. Directions and info about the city, including clever grocery shopping, are great. The building is just amazing, you can't miss it! And the inside is clean, tidy, confortable. There's a big shared kitchen with lots of utensils and cooking devices. Great shower and lots of bathrooms per floor.
