FAQs about hotels in Chiang Mai

The Rose of the North

Located among Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystic capital of the North. Offering more than 300 temples, it is considered one of the most important cultural centres in the country.

Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still keeps a relaxed and laidback feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.

This reputation is partly due to its proximity to mountains and lush green areas, like Doi Suthep Mountain and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 60 km away and comprises Thailand’s highest mountain.

Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city centre are a popular choice, offering a more picturesque experience, with its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.

The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Rd hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.

Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss 'The Rose of the North' deals on Booking.com!

Day of exploring with elephant sanctuary with team Yaya, get it on get your guide booking. Art village, carp cafe, French bistro cafe, unnie nails. Just be careful hiring scooters, have travel insurance before you go. We hired scooters from Happy Days, they never told us we need motorbike permit in chiang mai , within 1hr stopped by police with 500 baht fine followed the police to station to pay. Second day we had motorbike accident with my leg injury , the rental bumped us even it was not our fault according to police we paid damage to their bike and for the other guy. Overall soo much good place to explore, day trips to other cities. Next time I be staying for over 2weeks, people are kind and helpful just speak less English.

I have been to Chiang Mai on many occasions, on school trips, cricket tours and holidays and yet I still find it energising and an endless supply of interesting places to visit. Staying in the old town gives one access to all of the temples and statuary as well as a great many restaurants and, genuine, massage establishments. Grab works well up there so you can hire a car to Doi Suthep or other places close to town or you can join a tour group to places a little further afield such as Doi Inthanon or even Chiang Rai or Pai. If you go in November it will be a little cooler too so loads of walking to be done.

This is a place where you can look up cool cafes and eatery places, get a motorbike ride for 20 baht and experience something new everyday. The elephant tours are exceptional, the night market in old town is fun, the different temples, hostels, the river cafes and places to hang out, the train to lampang, the events that go on all the time...its a fun, and friendly city and you want to be sure to have Kao Soi the best meal ever. Enjoy your time oh and Raming Tea is lovely when your hot from walking too much...they have a special air con room, and all the drinks they make and food is very very good.

For the price, I thought the hotel was exceptional and the staff did their best to help me out whenever necessary. I found it very peaceful during the day and there are some excellent restaurants close by. I was able to work while there and enjoy my dinner in the evening.

A big city, the air is much better than in Bangkok.

A big city, the air is much better than in Bangkok. Renting a scooter is good way to get around the city. Officially an international drivers license for motorcycle is required. But I have been there many times and was luckily not stopped by the police. I am vegan, and fortunately there are many vegan restaurants. Unfortunately I don't particularly like Thai food, but :) fortunately there are markets everywhere and plenty of tropical fruits. Also many good vegetables, if you want to cook your own food. Chiang Mai is full of markets where you can get anything from food to cloth, to massage. My wife enjoyed massage she got in one of the temples. Ah, yea, the temples are really impressive, even amazing. And there are so unbelievably many of them. They are everywhere, on main streets, and on side streets. They have big court yards, many temples are open for visitors. Great places to rest or meditate. Their peaceful quite atmosphere, is a big contrast to the rest of the city. In the morning you can see the monks waling around the markets begging for food or perhaps money too. People give them even touch their feet, and then the monks put a holy face on and recite some nonsense. Having received the monks blessings people go away in the same way is if they just bought some cucumbers, or a news paper. Just a normal thing to do, part of the daily routine. One remarkable thing about Thailand is that it is *CLEAN*. Streets are clean, restaurants are clean, toilets are clean. The hygienic standards easily match the cleanest of European countries. This is a huge contrast to India, Pakistan, Nepal which disgustingly filthy. (I have to say that even though I love India). Unlike India/Pakistan/Nepal street food and restaurants in Thailand are safe. The pictures are not from Chiang Mai but from a smaller places some 2 or 3 hours away from Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai is a fabulous city with lots of history and so much to do and see. Chiang Mai has many places to have furniture made which can be easily shipped back to your home town. The northern cuisine is divine.. You are never far from incredible tasting food. We love the nightlife with lots of great bars and live music. Be sure to download GRAB on your phone to get very cheap taxis.

I had the best experience staying at Asia Group Hotel Chiang Mai! For the price, it’s an absolute gem. The bed is huge and super comfortable, giving me one of the best sleeps I’ve had in any hotel. The location is perfect — close to the Old City and also very convenient for reaching the suburbs like San Kamphaeng. It’s truly worth every single cent you spend here. In fact, I’d say this is probably the best hotel in Chiang Mai within this price range. Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort, value, and a great location!

Probably among the best hotels we have ever stayed in. In a very quiet neighbourhood but not far from attractions and food places in old city and close to a very interesting Wat. Bed was exceptionally comfortable and room was good size. Breakfast is very good with selection of fruits, Croissant, jam, toast, tea, coffee and your choice of how you want your eggs. Staff are very helpful.

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Welcome snack and drinks on arrival. Clean, comfortable rooms. AC works perfectly. Room cleaned everyday. Good location in the Old City. Great substantial breakfast menu. Their food is so good, we ate in the hotel 3 out of 4 nights. Complementary gift on departure. Elliebum topped of a great stay in Chiang Mai. You won't regret booking here.

Good location in the old city , in a quiet street with easy access. Staff was kind and helpful. Room was clean and bed very comfortable. Breakfast is cooked to order (you need to make the selection the day before) so it’s very fresh and tasty. Room was clean and looking similar to the pictures. Hôtel has only 6 rooms thus it’s rather quiet and good for resting.

Excellent breakfast options, great location near night bazaars. Amazingly comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Hugely helpful & friendly staff. Hotel also had bicycles we could take to tour the temples in the old city. The staff also went out of their way for our honeymoon to make it special with treats in our room during our stay and decorations!
