FAQs about hotels in New Orleans

Getting its Rhythm Back

The home of jazz, intriguing New Orleans evokes images of Louis Armstrong, wrought-iron balconies and mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Louisiana’s largest city, in the heart of the Deep South, the ‘Big Easy’ is being regenerated in the wake of devastating hurricane Katrina.

One area relatively unscathed was Bourbon Street – where jazz saxophones ring out of traditional bars interspersed by others offering more colourful nightlife. There are several New Orleans hotels near Bourbon Street, spread around the French Quarter with its distinctive Creole architecture.

To the south is Jackson Square, dominated by the Disney-esque St Louis Cathedral. Horses and carts wait patiently by the square, and locals set up their stools and start playing catchy tunes. Just behind is the legendary Mississippi River whose waters are still plied by paddle steamers.

From the river you get great views of the CBD skyscrapers and beside them is the huge Louisiana Superdome sports venue. Booking.com has several hotels near the Superdome, including some on Canal Street – a historic road where streetcars and the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras carnival pass down.

In the northern suburbs is New Orleans City Park, one of the oldest US parks and larger than NYC’s Central Park. Waterways lining it flow into large Lake Pontchartrain bordered by a bayou – the typical wetlands of the state.

What I loved most about my visit to New Orleans was the perfect blend of soulful music, vibrant nightlife, and quiet charm. The Evening Jazz Cruise on the Steamboat Natchez was a highlight—listening to live jazz on the upper deck as the city lights danced on the Mississippi was simply magical. Nights at Bourbon Street were equally unforgettable, filled with live music, friendly hosts at the bars, and a safe, welcoming atmosphere. And beyond the buzz, I cherished the serene beauty of the old quarters and the peaceful rhythm of the city itself.

This is an amazing hotel especially for the value.

This is an amazing hotel especially for the value. Big rooms, convenient location with Magazine Street 4 blocks away. It was quiet, safe and had a comfortable bed, soft sheets and a HUGE TV. The bathroom was somewhat small; however, it's been update and they have lots of mirrors throughout the room including a full-length mirror and desk where you can do your makeup. The room was huge with a Keurig coffee maker and mini fridge. I was overall impressed and felt safe traveling alone for work. The staff was nice and responsive. It looks basic from the outside, however it's very nice and updated inside. The area around hotel is walkable and somewhat safe considering NOLA; restaurant Jack Rose and the Pontchartrain Hotel are located next door. This area of St. Charles is pretty and walkable.

Always an experience to visit New Orleans!

Always an experience to visit New Orleans! See the usual such as Bourbon Street and Cafe du Monde but this time I visited the Mardi Gras World where they make the floats for the parades - and for other companies as well. It was well worth it! The guide was so fun and it was a super nice time. They even come and pick you up and then took as far as they could to the French Quarter! We rode the hop on hop off bus and that was a good deal as well. The guide on this was super informative. Lots of great information. I was disappointed that it cost so much to get in to the cemetery and did not partake of that due to cost and timing. Was very pleased with Mulate's restaurant close to the convention center. Food was wonderful! And a little place called Cochon Butcher was unique! Take advantage of the trolley - 40 cents for seniors!

    The city is beautiful.

The city is beautiful. We were two streets away from French Street, two blocks from Bourbon Street and a few blocks from all the restaurants, stores, and activity on Decatur Street. It was hotter than we anticipated for mid-September so some of the outdoor activities we put off until the evening. The Hop on Hop off Bus for was excellent, and convenient. There was a great deal of construction on Decatur Street making it a bit more difficult to freely move around in some areas and caused traffic to be rerouted to other side streets. I didn't take photos in that area due to the disruption, but didn't take away from enjoying the offerings.

This visit included some time spent in the Marigny and Bywater areas, for the music on Frenchman street and the cafes and a bakery at Washington Square. I created a drawing and map of the Ayu Bakehouse for viewing.

Absolutely one of the most walkable and friendly cities in the U.S. This was our 8th trip, staying at 3 different properties on Bourbon Street and we've never been disappointed with the variety of things to do and places to eat. If we won the lottery, NO would become a second home.

Everything! The hotel was perfectly located on the heart of the French Quarter within walking distance to everything but just a little out the way of the noisiest streets. It’s a big old traditional New Orleans property and the staff are all super friendly and welcoming and helpful. The beds were really comfortable (something we don’t always find in hotels - often mattresses are uncomfortable) and the rooms had air con and a fab so we were cool in the Louisiana heat.

Strange hotel with very very nice employees. Looks like nothing, but turned out be very nice. Nice big room, cleen and nice bathrom, more quiet than I would think possible. Downtown, at the very edge of civilisation where downtown turn less nice. Short walk from French Quarter. I enjoyed my stay and the not so posh or upscale area. The girls running the hotel could not have been nicer or more helpful.

The location is absolutely perfect, it is on a quiet street, 50 meters away from Bourbon street so you have everything on the French Quarter at a walking distance, even Frenchmen Street. The location is the best positive thing on the Hotel. Besides that, the hotel is super nice and it has good facilities, nice pool, nice play to have breakfast and a great bar on the corner with live music.

A hotel situated in the middle of the action in New Orleans, a good clean room with nice beds. Although it was in the middle of the French Quarter with all the action the rooms were well isolated so hardly any noise from outside was experienced
