Although a little bit more pricey, this Inn is worth the few extra bucks. Loved the historic architecture, the overall surrounding area and especially the natural pool/hot springs nearby which you're allowed to use as a guest. The rooms are beautiful, comfy and clean, maybe a little smaller (at least by American standards), but we didn't mind that at all. In the morning coffee and bagels with delicious jam were provided. Can also very much recommend the restaurant/bar directly across the street.

Staying with Carlo and Jack at Villa Anita was a completely enriching experience from the very second we arrived. We will never forget the jubilant and rapturous welcome Carlo greeted us with as he skilfully guided us into our parking spot, without destroying too much of his bamboo sweeping us into the heart of Villa Anita. Swooshing and flowing, vibrant and colourful, textured and eclectic the interior conveyed a lifetime of the collection of objects and experiences. It is theatre, each room a stage rich with the possibility of a new performance. Our rooms and bathrooms were aesthetically exquisite and were of an excellent standard, (amazing showers) we dined on beautifully cooked homemade cuisine from Carlo and Jack’s garden and served to us with their glorious personal touch, conversation littered with anecdotes of past times and personal histories culminating in descriptions of life lived in the heart of the Californian desert. We never really stopped being entertained and hosted from beginning to end of our stay to a degree of magnificence could only have dreamt of. So it really goes without saying that we couldn’t recommend Villa Anita more highly.

It's a bump in the road on the way to Death Valley with one restaurant with a bar. Worth the stop with myriad identified hikes around the village. Most fascinating are caves that miners dug over 100 years ago. They are preserved and worth a quick visit. Next to them is the cemetery with real local flavor. Stop there on the way to Death Valley.

The walking paths along the Amargosa River and in the Foothills are both excellent. The dramatic geology. The food at the Crowbar. The local museum. All of these are wonderful features of Shoshone. Nice people, too.
