Perched on the shores of the Baltic Sea, Estonia is home to the best-preserved medieval city in Europe – the capital of Tallinn. With over 1,500 islands, you’ll also encounter unusually rustic beaches which are best enjoyed during the short summer period between mid-June and late August. A stroll through the fairy-tale Old Town of Tallinn will make you feel as if you’ve time travelled back to the Middle Ages. Lined with medieval manor houses and ancient churches, the city is still largely enclosed by its 13th-century walls. The stunning town square hosts a historic market place as well as open-air concerts, cafés and medieval festivals. Lahemaa National Park can be reached within an hour from Tallinn and offers hikes through dense forests and pretty villages. To soak up Estonia’s island vibe, take a jaunt out to Saaremaa – the country’s largest island and home to the famous Bishop’s Castle. Tallinn has hotels galore, but if you’re after something a little different then you can also book a stay in historic manors and cosy woodland cabins.

Everything! As I told Reception on my way out this morning after three absolutely delightful nights there, this was not a *five*-star hotel, but rather a *seven*-star one! As soon as we arrived, we were given a super-upgrade to a large room, lavishly decorated with drapes and period-piece furniture fit for royalty. I actually had to go back to Reception for confirmation that they had indeed assigned us to the right room! In addition, the breakfast buffet was outstanding on each of the three days of our stay. I can single out the croissants, apple strudel, cheesecake, variety of jams, and fruit salad as particularly excellent items. I reckon this hotel must have hired a pastry chef par excellence to achieve the level of culinary satisfaction that we experienced. Moreover, the staff at Reception were invariably friendly, courteous, cheerful and helpful. I would like to identify one of the staff in particular, Vanessa, who was always willing to go the extra mile to answer our questions about sites of interest. She even ventured out into the cold one day to point us in the right direction for the Botanical Gardens. If ever we visit Tartu again someday, I would choose the Hotel Antonius in a heartbeat. Kudos to the hotel staff for making this such a memorable three days!

Guest review
We had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Burman Hotel in Tallinn, and I can honestly say it exceeded all expectations.
The breakfast was exceptional, with hot food made to order, a wide selection of drinks, fresh pastries, fruit, and everything beautifully presented. It felt more like a boutique dining experience than a standard hotel breakfast.
The room was pure luxury, offering a range of thoughtful touches that really made the stay feel special. Each day, I was provided with a printed weather report, and lovely pillow treats like lip balm and face mist. The bathroom was fully stocked with high-quality shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and moisturiser, as well as extras like a toothbrush, toothpaste, face wipes, a comb and more, all replenished daily. Fresh towels and a fluffy dressing gown were also provided, which added that extra comfort after a long day exploring.
The staff were incredibly attentive, always friendly, and helpful, and genuinely seemed to care about making my stay as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Nothing was ever too much trouble, they truly went above and beyond.
If you're visiting Tallinn and want a stay that’s both luxurious and welcoming, I can’t recommend the Burman Hotel enough. I’ll definitely be returning!
