Our rooms are designed with traditional Japanese aesthetics, featuring tatami mat flooring throughout. For those who prefer a futon on tatami or a bed, we also offer Japanese-Western style rooms. The warm ambiance is further enhanced by local artists' paintings adorning the walls. The lodging was excellent with the ultimate Japanese experience. The room had every immensity possible and the bed was really comfortable. We would differently stay here again.

Excellent location near Takayama station, attentive staff, great onsen facilities and breakfast. There isn't much to do in Takayama after a certain hour in Winter but that is ok, since the ryokan has a very inviting area where you can relax, read, try calligraphy and origami, have some tea... I left my mobile phone in the room and enjoyed the entertainment provided there, completely agnostic of the outside world. Great way to disconnect!

Free WiFi is available at the lobby and guestrooms. This hotel was selected as one of the Top 25 B&Bs and Inns in Japan by TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award 2015. It was as expected! A very traditional experience in a true japanese ryokan! Simple, and very very clean!

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Guests can request relaxing massage treatments or soak in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, which are made of rocks and cypress wood. Everything really. The staff is so helpful (I asked for the ingredients of a sauce we like and they printed us a recipe, how cute). We have a massage there. So good. In your room and even good value. Dinner is in your room and they make your bed after. In the middle of town. Amazing place !

Authentic Japanese set meals are served for breakfast and dinner. This was probably our favourite accommodation during our entire trip in Japan. Not only was takayama itself beautiful to travel to by train but the hospitality at Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan was amazing and I would definitely return here when I come to Takayama next. Would definitely recommend the traditional meal experience as well! They will also pick you up/drop you off at the train station as well for no extra cost!

Just 40 metres from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor. It has a hot public bath, and Japanese meals are available for a fee. Amazing overall experience. Book if it’s still available and don’t miss dinner and breakfast!

Hida Takayama Hodakaso Yamano Iori is just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya and Miyagawa Morning Market. The hotel is located in the center of Takayama city, and there are many restaurants around. The Japanese-style accommodation offers spacious public baths. No meals are provided, but bread and soup are provided as light meals in the room. Free parking is provided on site. Great room space, nice location

Awarded in 2014 with TripAdivsor’s Certificate of Excellence, Takayama Ouan features traditional Japanese designs and tatami (woven-straw) flooring throughout. It boasts a rooftop open-air natural hot-spring bath, cosy family baths and a hearty homemade breakfast buffet. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. JR Takayama Station is located a 3-minute walk away. I had a really good time, everything was clean and tidy, the staff was super helpful and kind, the relaxing atmosphere with the onsen was clean and really gave you an air of absolute tranquility, not to mention the beautiful view you have in the evening of all of Takayama, while you are in the tub on the balcony - Then I found the breakfasts delicious! better than the Western ones (personal opinion)

The en suite bathroom has a bath tub and free toiletries. Very nice location close to JR Station. Staff was very nice and room was clean. Breakfast was very tasty. Highly recommend.

Guests can enjoy multi-course Japanese dinner using Hida Beef at private dining room. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. We have never felt so welcomed like we did here. Everything is perfectly designed to make you feel special, from the moment they look for you in the station to take you to the hotel, the check in experience, to how the member of the staff that accompanies you to the room to explain you everything and give you the welcoming treat. The kaiseki meals are superb, the quality and level of detail of the food and the explanation of each dish. The onsen experience was also very good, there are two onsen for male and two for females with every amenities you could need and more. There are spacious, very comfortable, well maintained and clean. Highly recommended and would repeat the stay if we go back to Takayama.
