Situated a 15-minute walk from the beach, Rivera Del Rio offers an outdoor pool, hot tub and charming individually decorated rooms and suites. Breakfast costs 12 USD and free Wi-Fi is included.

The elegant rooms at Rivera Del Rio feature unique décor and antique furniture. Some have kitchen facilities, patios and views of the river, while all offer cable TV, air conditioning and a private bathroom. I highly recommend staying here. We upgraded to a room called ‘Jocelyn’ and it was an absolutely beautiful view over looking the river valley. The room was bright and had a little fridge. The staff were fantastic! We were greeted with a margarita and fresh pico de gallo with nachos. The location was located just a little away from the hustle and bustle of the beach front and was very quiet. I especially missed being served Mezcalitas by Jesus on the rooftop patio and pool. We were served a nice breakfast each morning while we chatted over our ideas for the day. If you are looking for a quaint boutique hotel experience this is the place!

Set in Cruz de Huanacaxtle, 2.2 km from Huanacaxtle Beach, Grand Matlali Suites & Villas Riviera Nayarit offers accommodation with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a fitness centre and a garden. Offering a restaurant, the property also has a private beach area and a terrace. The accommodation features a 24-hour front desk, a concierge service and currency exchange for guests. Upon my arrival at the hotel, I had no clue where things were. I had to ask for directions, and eventually, everything was explained to me. There was a miscommunication in booking; the room I was assigned was not the one I had reserved. After discussing with the manager, I was transferred to a suite. Despite being advertised as all-inclusive, there was only one restaurant open at a time. Although I was informed there were four, only one was operational. Consequently, we were stuck with buffet meals for three days, with one day offering a different experience where someone took our orders. Nevertheless, all the staff were extremely kind and helpful, and the drinks were excellent. The property was very clean. The food and drinks at the beach bar were also great, with another set of excellent staff. Overall, I had a pleasant experience. However, I wished there were multiple restaurant options, especially since I booked the all-inclusive package with that expectation.

Located in the center of Puerto Vallarta and 50 meters from Plaza de Armas, Hotel Porto Alegre Puerto Vallarta offers free Wi-Fi and features a roof garden terrace with outdoor minipool and a 24-hour fitness center. The location of this property was fantastic. Not knowing the town, having never been here before, I couldn’t have hoped for a better spot. Situated in a safe, quiet corner amongst some nicer shops, there was little automobile traffic and very light tourist pedestrians. There was a major full-service bank the next block over. It’s a very short 2-3 minute walk to the south end of the Malacon. The river Cuale and it’s island of shops and restaurants was at the end of the block, with the Romantic Zone just beyond. 4-5 minute walk to the Lady of Guadalupe church. Driving-wise, it’s easy to access the main road north through the rest of city, and easy access to head south out of town to the Botanical Garden and Los Arcos. Likewise, easy to get back to. No dedicated parking, just on-street parking which can be difficult during the day, but by late afternoon or early evening spaces open up. We never had major issues in 6 days. The staff was friendly and welcoming and available for advice or help with services, including very reasonable laundry. There was always somebody at the front desk, they really kept a good eye on the place. We had a 2nd floor corner room with a good, wide view of the street. The room was large, we found the bed to be very comfortable, and while not a luxury property, it was very clean and in good repair. It would have been nice if there was a couch or some other seating, as there was plenty of space for it. The shower was large, the rest of the bathroom on the smaller side, with not much counter space for personal items. There was a mini-fridge for our water and such. All in all, we had a delightful stay and would absolutely book Hotel Porto Allegro again without hesitation!
