A well-run hostel in a former elementary school. Dorm style rooms, shared bathrooms, all very clean. In walking distance from Magome village center and start of Nakasendo trail. Friendly and helpful staff shares recommendations for breakfast and dinner places.
If you come to hike the trail, there is no need for a five- star hotel facility. I would return to this place any time and will definitely recommend it to friends...

Magome Chaya was wonderfully located right on the Nakasendo in the heart of beautiful Magome. The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was delicious, and we were thankful our dietary needs were able to be accommodated for.

It’s an entire house and very big! Full of antiques and curios, and very near the station. The bakery next door opens at 8am for the best breakfast, don’t miss it.
The supermarket opens at 10am till 6pm and there aren’t many restaurants around :-).
Gold base to explore the Nasenko trail as you can do day trips, I wish we had done that instead of moving everyday, you can take the train to the stations where the tracks start.

Our one night at Takimi House was the highlight of our two-week trip to Japan. The hosts, a lovely couple, made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Their warmth and hospitality were truly exceptional.
The food was another standout aspect of our stay. Every meal was delicious, but the miso soup was particularly incredible. It was the best we’ve ever had!
Additionally, the hosts picked us up and dropped us back off at the train station in Nagiso which was incredibly helpful given the remote location of Takimi House. This extra touch made our stay even more convenient and enjoyable.
Overall, Takimi House provided an unforgettable experience, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Japan.

The house is big and almost historic. It was like stepping into the 1950's. Very cool that the original sparkle plaster walls are there. Acres of tatami. This was the home of someone well off it seems. Great modern bathroom.
