This was the best value for money stay I had this trip. Highly recommend opting for dinner to be included with your stay. The steamed vegetables and meat with rice and soup was a sumptuous, healthy yet delicious meal especially at the end of a day's big hike. The dorm beds were comfortable, and it was a really nice luxury to get a private onsen experience (especially the outdoor one). Though there was no convenience store around, the hostel has a very good range of snacks, instant noodles, buns at good prices so you don't have to worry about not having food around.

It is a small town, actually not too many options in the town. It is great that we choose this place, house owner is very nice, she kindly offer assistance to us and introduced every facilities in her house. The location is very good, 15 minutes walking distance to the main tourist spot. There is small shop selling good Japan beef near the guest house, if you like cooking, you can buy some food and cook in the house.

Everything was perfect, the room was spacious and had a very comfortable queen sized bed, the place was quiet and you can get a good night sleep. The shared facilities are clean and the kitchen is quite big. I enjoyed a beautiful sunset in the porch. The guy working there was super friendly and helpful. A good location if you want to shorten the walk to Hongu.

Right next to the supermarket so we could get ingredients for dinner and breakfast. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook. Rooms have their own sinks which was a bonus. The room stayed very warm for winter. Really nice views and close to other sightseeing places.

Very homely feeling during our stay in Hongu. Mandy not only made us feel welcome but looked after and took us around as if we were family. She also went out of her way to organise a taxi to find us when we got lost during our hike - without her I am not sure what would've happened. Both home prepped meals were amazing, and the acupuncture service was extremely professional. We really enjoyed this authentic Japanese homestay experience and hope to be back soon!

Truly touched by Hitomi’s dedication as a host. Although we spent just one day together, the moment we arrived, her elegant and warm presence immediately lifted the spirits affected by the terrible weather of that day. Hitomi's humor and talent shone through, enhancing the delicious meals prepared by the chef. She went above and beyond by helping me dry my clothes in the rain and arranging our luggage transport the following day. These thoughtful gestures made our experience incredibly special. Thanks to Hitomi, the memories of the Kumano Kodo are forever etched in our hearts. Her selflessness, along with that of the chef, helped us discover the beauty of Katsuura, a hidden paradise. The host is flexible and helpful, and very nice to chat with. The house is very clean and safe, and we felt very comfortable staying here. What we liked the most are the parking spot in front of the house and the brand new shower. We will definitely stay with them again next time we are in the area.
