Brilliantly stylish apartment right on a beautiful square. Free parking on the street nearby. Despite Velas being a port town, it wasn't too busy. Laundry facilities were great to have. Owner could not do enough to help.

I liked unusual things like fruit and cookie basket plus a fridge we can use and of course wonderful view of the Pico volcano from the patio at breakfast.

We had a very nice time at the home of Ruis, and we only wish we could stay longer. The house is very clean, the room we booked comes with a nice private bathroom, and we could also use the kitchen. The hosts waited for us at the port, as our boat was late, explained the most beautiful points on the island, and helped with our car rental, and found a taxi for the faja hike we did one day. In the evening we had very nice conversations with Rui the uncle, while listening to the most fantastic cries of the cagarro birds flying above our heads and the nearby rock - it is one of the most memorable things from this island. The house is 15-ish minutes walk to the center of Velas, as well a big supermarket. The whole town is very safe and pleasant. The island is very beautiful, with some dramatic scenery, and our most honest advice would be to stay longer on Sao Jorge, if possible. The faja hike is one of the most pleasant and enjoyable hikes we have done.

Hotel could be the summer palace from „il gattipardo“, tons of history renovated with sense of perfection and run by granddaughter of the original owner, a retired lawyer with a lot of love for the well-being of her clients. Best breakfast ever and absolutely taste her cakes! Be aware, however, that guests are staying with in a historic place - one has to behave with the respect for beauty and tradition! Don’t stay only one night before taking the flight. That would be a shame!

We had a wonderful stay at Rui and Lina’s place. The house is beautiful and well-equipped, making it very comfortable. Rui and Lina are very kind and attentive hosts, always making sure guests feel welcome. They even offer rides to places if you don’t have a car. The pool is great on warm days, and the view of Pico is stunning. A lovely place to stay! Would highly recommend!
