Takayama City, Takayama
Effective October 1, 2025, a lodging tax will be introduced by ordinance of Takayama City. In addition to the room charge, 100 yen per person per day will be charged. Please pay in cash or by card upon check-in. Guests under 12 years old are exempt from the lodging tax. The people working there are both friendly, helpful and caring, it felt like they had a genuine intrest in their guests. The common areas are clean and cosy with a relaxed vibe, and when I was there the guests interacted with each other so you could get to know new people if you wanted to. The place was also in walking distance to both the bus station, old part of town and to a shopping mall with a proper supermarket. If you dont want to walk, there is a 7/11 right next door, or there is the possibility to buy food and coffee at the place. If I come back to Takayama I would choose to stay here again

The kind monk welcomed us with a tour of his family’s temple grounds, shared local dining tips (his izakaya recommendation was excellent), and generously offered complimentary sake, shochu, and beer, complete with a gas stove for warming drinks. He even guided us in setting up our futon beds. The temple opened at 6am, and we were invited to join his 7am prayer service and participate in rituals like sutra copying. Before we left, he gifted us a meaningful Wagen Aigo souvenir and sent us off with blessings. This stay was a genuine experience of Japanese culture—highly recommended.

Lovely hostel with a very clean kitchen. We stayed in a private room which can easily compete with a hotel room.
Great Hostel. Quite new and super clean. Rooms had bunk beds and it was great to sleep on a real mattress.
The environment is nice and great of this hotel. They have 2 buildings A and B, and each building got 5 rooms. Rooms is perfect, 3 Cs - clean, comfy and cozy. More to like a homestay. I will be back !! Wait for me. Thanks to the owner who keep us in great mood. The owner will respond via the message through Booking.com
chilled vibe, great host, free bicycles, great view from all rooms, parking, short walk to Perry Road - I always return!
lovely host who was friendly, helpful and clearly loves living there
Small and cosy traditional style with good shared facilities. Good host and location to train and attractions.
Beautiful Japanese traditional house. Excellent facilities with friendly and helpful staff. Perfect central location . I really appreciated the character of this building. The kitchen was well equipped, facilities were clean & comfortable. The rooms were lovely but sharing a dorm can mean noise and some disruptive sleep . Worth it to stay in this lovely hostel though.
The host family is very welcoming, the home has so much history and makes you feel a part of something special. It was an amazing experience especially with the host sharing all her knowledge on the local area and the food that was made for us, foraged from the mountain. An amazing experience that will not be forgotten .
Lovely host family, everything was always super clean, enough toilets and showers (since everything is shared I think that's an important thing to mention), kitchen has everything you need, common room feels nice and cozy, dorm has enough space for everyone to keep their stuff and beds were comfy :)
