Facilities are modern though, but the atmosphere is excellent. The hosts are super friendly and nice. Breakfast is hearty and coffee is available until 10 PM. One of my best stays ever.

It is housed in a 100-year-old traditional building. The service and management. So human and nice. They upgraded me to a private room couple of days because one guy was snoring a lot in the common room. The guest house is so cozy, traditional, clean and safe. You have lockers and stable and fast WiFi. The location is just 10 mins walking from the main spots in Kyoto.

He has fantastic English and goes above and beyond with everything he does. The room was unbelievably clean and the bed was comfortable. The shared kitchen was always spotless and had all the equipment you would need (and complimentary coffee!). While not close to the main attractions in Kyoto, the accommodation is a two minute walk from the Metro so there is no real issue.

The units at the hostel are fitted with a seating area. All rooms at Ryokan Hostel Gion have air conditioning and a safety deposit box. This hostel is one of the best I have ever stayed at! The beds were comfortable and quite private/spacious for a dorm room. The location was perfect for exploring Kyoto and all facilities were very clean. The staff were friendly, helpful, and could speak English well. The only downside I had was that I wish there was better ventilation in the rooms as it got quite smelly overnight with all the travellers, but that happens in all hostels!
