In 2019, Andy & Sam, with a deep-rooted connection to rural North Essex, made a life-altering decision to call this historic place home. Opting for a more serene Devonian lifestyle, they sought to raise their twin children in a cleaner, fresher, and more spacious environment, bidding farewell to the hustle and bustle of the rat race. A pivotal moment unfolded during a milestone birthday celebration, where a marquee was pitched, a band played, and friends from near and far gathered in the meadow. The magical atmosphere, coupled with the breathtaking location, sparked the realisation that this space was truly extraordinary. Lower Whitsleigh Farm Retreat was born, offering just three unique properties – an award-winning self-catering cottage, a luxury safari Lodge, and a Cabin on an Island in the lake. Your hosts at the cottage are Sam & Andy accompanied by a delightful array of animals - Rufus the friendly ex-guide dog; Daisy, the playful young labrador; Daphne, Delilah, Dave & Roy the four rescue donkeys; Tamworth Pigs; Minty & Chops the sheep, Ferdie & Joe, the Horse duo; and ex-battery hens. Together, we aim to make your stay enjoyable, relaxing, rewarding and entertaining. While guests are encouraged to bring their dogs, a stairgate ensures the cottage, glamping lodge, and cabin remain in tip-top condition. Devon has proven to be a little piece of heaven for us, and we eagerly anticipate sharing our special place with you. To ensure a personal touch, activities are exclusive to guests staying with us.
