See the boats bring in their prawns and lobsters, watch the fishermen repair their nets and experience that special south-facing sparkle of the sun on the waters all from the lounge. You will see seals in the harbour, and perhaps even a whale out in the Firth of Forth. Or sit out the back in the sunny, terraced garden with your cuppa and cast a glance to the
south to the Bass Rock… and if you fancy a walk, the House is right on the Fife Coastal Path.
House on the Harbour opens into a comfortable and spacious sitting room with a feature glass panelled staircase leading to the upstairs living space where the sitting room, kitchen, dining room and patio flow from one to the other. The modern kitchen is well equipped, and the dining room comfortably seats 8 people. The French doors in the dining room lead onto the patio – perfect for outside entertaining with its large table. The upstairs sitting room features a beautiful exposed stone wall and stunning fireplace, and is flooded with light from the three windows. The downstairs bathroom has a bath and power shower, and the upstairs has a luxurious walk in shower. Larger groups could also rent the Penthouse Flat 1 , which comfortably sleeps 2 - 4. Together the main house and the penthouse could comfortably accommodate groups of up to 10. Original art features throughout the house by David Henderson.
Neighbourhood information
Pittenweem has the only working harbour in the East Neuk of Fife. House on the Harbour is steeped
in fishing history, and even now you can buy fish and seafood on your doorstep. Watch the seals in
the harbour with an icecream. Take a short walk along the beach and you may be lucky enough to
see dolphins and porpoise – or even a whale. Or enjoy a boat trip to the Isle of May (National Nature
Reserve) – or even North Berwick across the water in East Lothian.
House on the Harbour is right on the Fife Coastal Path, and it’s a gentle 40 minute walk to Anstruther
to the east, or St Monans to the west. The annual Pittenweem Arts Festival (August) has drawn a
community of artists and craftspeople to this historic village, with galleries and open studies. The
sleepy high street has welcoming cafes, and there are two village pubs. Anstruther, Elie and St
Monans also provide a wide range of restaurants, pubs and cafes.
For golfers, Fife is the home of golf, with Anstruther course five minutes away, and another 45
courses a short drive – including the famous Old Course at St Andrews.
