Our quaint cottage has a cosy and relaxing atmosphere which we find helps our guests to unwind. Previously two 16th century mill cottages, this special old house with its beamed ceilings and open fire places has plenty of timeless charm. Made from cob, a natural building material consisting of sand, clay and some kind of fibrous material such as straw, it would have originally been thatched. The ceilings are made from oak beams and a large chimney runs centrally up through the heart of the house which is still in service today to heat the guest's breakfast room. The thick walls provide a welcome coolness in the summer months and lock in the heat during the winter. With its quiet village location and near to the A30, this character guest house really is the ideal retreat from which to explore Devon and Cornwall any time of year. Guests enjoy their breakfast in our quaint breakfast room named "Wild Garlic". Sit comfortably on Victorian carved wooden chairs surrounded by antiques and oddities in this period styled room heated by the cosy log burner. Attentive service is always guaranteed by your host Suzanne, who will always make you feel comfortable and welcome.
It's been over four years in the planning but we're finally here. We first decided to buy and run our own guest house in 2010. After spending many hours travelling around the West Country and seeing what was available, we put our home on the market. Unfortunately due to the recession property wasn't selling so things didn't go to plan and we had no option but to bide our time. I didn't waste this time though as I knew we'd get there eventually, so I enrolled on a six month intensive Cordon Bleu diploma at Tante Marie, the oldest culinary college in the country and after graduating, I gained experience in professional kitchens. Suzanne already had experience in the hospitality industry running a pub and working front of house in the restaurant business. Now we have our own business, we are enjoying putting into place all the things that we've expected as customers and injecting our passion for service and quality. We look forward to meeting you and feel confident that you will enjoy your stay with us.
Tinhay and Lifton Set in rolling countryside Tinhay and Lifton are separated only by a paddock and from a guest prospective the two peaceful villages can almost be considered as one. There are many local walks and hidden treasures for the casual rambler to explore and on your way back why not treat yourself to a drink at one of the local bars. Lifton has a small grocery shop, post office and a road side petrol pump which is operated by an attendant, something very rare these days. Launceston Moving further afield Tinhay lies just six miles east of Launceston, known locally as the "Gateway to Cornwall". Launceston is a beautiful, historic market town. Relax and soak up the atmosphere of this ancient town with its surprising array of shops and attractions situated amongst narrow medieval streets that are dominated by an imposing Norman castle. Experience a town steeped in history, and explore the beautiful Tamar Valley. Tavistock Nine miles south of Tinhay is the south west's famous market town, Tavistock. Its rich history and famous son's and daughters tell a story that spans over a thousand years. Kings and Queens have come to visit and many a tale c
