Dragon Hotel Lamayuru is a small, family-run establishment with deep roots in the region—our family has been welcoming travelers since before the 1990s. The hotel originally began with my grandfather, and during his time, it was considered one of the most well-known guesthouses in Lamayuru. We’ve always believed in offering a personal and warm experience, which is why we maintain just around 12 rooms. Keeping the number of rooms limited allows us to focus fully on our guests and ensure their comfort and needs are met with care. Most of the vegetables used in our meals are grown fresh in our own garden, and when guests request, we serve homemade traditional Ladakhi food lovingly prepared by my mother. Staying at Dragon Hotel is not just about accommodation—it’s about experiencing Ladakhi hospitality in a homely, peaceful setting.
My name is Tsewang Gyaltson, and I’m the host of Dragon Hotel Lamayuru. I completed my schooling in Dehradun, but as my parents grew older, I made the decision—as the eldest son and with a sense of responsibility (farz)—to leave college and return home to help run our family guesthouse. Since then, I’ve been fully dedicated to preserving the tradition of hospitality started by my grandfather. Every guest who stays with us becomes part of our extended family, and I take pride in offering not just a room, but a warm experience filled with local culture, good food, and peaceful surroundings. For me, running this guesthouse is not just work—it’s a way to contribute to my family and keep our roots alive in the heart of the Himalayas.
Our neighbourhood in Lamayuru is known for its peaceful atmosphere and strong sense of community. We all live here like an extended family, in harmony and mutual support. If anyone needs help—whether it's something as small as borrowing an item or helping a guest—our neighbours are always just a call away. When our guesthouse is fully booked, we gladly recommend nearby guesthouses run by our neighbours, and they do the same for us. This spirit of cooperation reflects the true Ladakhi way of life, where kindness, respect, and togetherness are valued above all. Guests often tell us that this sense of community makes their stay even more special.
