Harmony at Huailan Home Ecolodge is a perfect base for exploring the simple, profound beauty of our area; from Ban Pong Huai Lan and the On Tai villages, to Sankhampaeng, Mae On and Chiang Mai. Here, you can find the real Northern Thailand, where most people still live a traditional life, close to nature; while the young generation add colour, with many cool and creative, micro-businesses.
Within 10-15 minutes on foot or bike, you can reach scenic Huai Lan Reservoir. In the evenings, local people set up small barbeques along the waterfront, and enjoy chatting and chilling. If you feel active, you can bike or hike into the forest. Easy, flat routes take only 45 minutes to an hour (20 mins by bike); while more challenging hikes, such as the summit of Doi Ngum mountain, take around 2 hours, rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Chiang Mai.
Guests enjoy exploring the local villages by bike, using our in-house map. Within 20-30 minutes, you can reach many charming local restaurants and hidden gem coffee shops. Our favourites include Chuen Café and Need Café for breakfast; On Tai Farm, Green Moon Café and Cacao Garden for lunch; and Sabuy Garden and Nasi Jumpru for dinner, offering some of the best Thai food in Thailand. If you miss western food, Ban Pong Lodge, just 5 mins up the road, offers a full menu.
If you feel less active, local community members offer trips by motorbike-side-car, lots of fun!
A short drive up the road, reaches many other great destinations, including Chiang Mai Art Museum (10 min) where a community of local and international artists live and create art; San Khampaeng Hotsprings (20 min) for a warm mineral soak and traditional Thai massage; and Mae Kampong village (1 hour) for cute restaurants, fresh arabica coffee, hiking and waterfalls.
Beautiful Chiang Mai City, with it’s historic temples, vibrant markets and diverse food is easily accessible. Rent a car from Chiang Mai, or we can help you to organize a car or minivan to explore.
