**Due to safety reasons, The Renovated Barn is not suitable for children under 18 years old** Staying at the Renovated Barn is like stepping into a storybook. Nestled in West Virginia's lush forests and rugged mountains, the surrounding grounds are magical. The Renovated Barn is a true barn, and the space is small, but cozy. Only half of the structure is for guests, the rest is occupied by a menagerie of very interesting characters, including goats, chickens, peacocks, ducks, & a pig! This is by far the highlight for most people who stay here. The animals get a little noisy at times (warning: peacocks & roosters can be quite vocal, even in the middle of the night!), but despite this, most people find the barnyard a quiet & peaceful retreat from the city. If you're looking for a unique experience you should consider staying in the Renovated Barn!
Renovations were completed in 2013. The original barn dates back to the early part of the 20th century. My husband and I did all the renovations ourselves and tried to keep as much original as possible. Most of the walls, windows and the ceiling are all original, which really lets you feel like you're staying in an old barn. However, we also did a lot of work including the addition of new floors, doors, roof, and insulation to really tighten the place up. We also did our best to pack all the creature comforts of home into the small space, making for a super comfortable, yet totally unique stay. We give guests privacy while staying in the Renovated Barn, which is located next to our home, where we live with our 2 dogs. Our dogs are fenced in and kept away from gueat a sts, though they are within sight and do bark on occasion. Your pets are also welcome for an additional charge (up to 2 large dogs/3 if they are smaller). Please advise me if you'll be bringing a pet, I take extra measures to prepare the barn and to ensure my dogs are quiet and not let loose out of their area when we go for walks. The Renovated Barn is on an actual farm, so I do come onto the grounds each day to feed and tend the animals, once in the morning and again in the late afternoon. Guests are permitted to feed the animals, provided they follow the rules as written in the Welcome Guide.
The Renovated Barn is located right in the heart of the Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area and is part of the Monongahela National Forest. It's just a 7 minute drive to Seneca Rocks and within a 45 minute drive of several other iconic West Virginia sights, including Spruce Knob, Canaan Valley, the Dolly Sods, and Blackwater Falls. If you're an outdoor enthusiast, this is the place to be. Seneca Rocks is very remote. The town itself is a "one stop-sign town" with a couple stores that supply basic needs, a restaurant and 2 climbing schools. There is a hiking trail to the top of the rocks (about 3 miles roundtrip), and a refreshing swimming hole in the river at the base of rocks. The towns of Davis and Thomas offer more in the way of restaurants and shops, and are about a 45 minute drive from the Barn.
