Amakhala is a rustic, self-standing home sleeping six very comfortably. The generously proportioned spaces allow for peace and quiet or, if you're celebrating, a wonderful party atmosphere. We only ask that festivities take the neighbors into consideration and maintain acceptable decibel limits by 10 pm. There is an enclosed garden on the south side with a spacious, covered veranda, a pool and basic BBQ facilities. Views are spectacular and the wonderful thing is you can be up in the hills in just 10 minutes or less! The north facing veranda has magnificent views of Blou Punt and provides welcome shade in the morning. The master bedroom has bay windows, access to the veranda, a king size bed and an en suite bathroom. The cozy middle room has two 3/4 size beds and shares a bathroom with a larger room with a king size bed and bay windows. There is ample cupboard space in all rooms. All beds in the house are reported to be extremely comfortable and winter sheets are used when the weather cools down.
Walking has always been one of my favorite hobbies so most days I take a 50 min amble* up the hill and around the closest contour path. There are so many variations to choose from. I'd be happy to have you join me or to point out the various routes. The ECO club puts on some interesting talks and events. Just ask if you're interested. I co-ordinate the Montagu Hacking Club - that's removing invasive alien trees which tend to spread like wild fire, choking the rivers and preventing indigenous growth anywhere nearby. If you'd be interested in trying that out for an hour or two I'd be happy to show you the ropes. Talking of ropes, Montagu is world renowned for it's rock climbing sites and we're pretty close to most of them. I tried it as a teenager in Natal but left the efforts to my dad and brothers. I far preferred trekking! I belong to The Inner Wheel, an international charity affiliated to Rotary. We work directly with the local community who need extra support, focusing on young children and the elderly. If you're interested in finding out more or even supporting yourself please let me know and I'll arrange something for you. I look forward to meeting you.
Our neighborhood is growing as we speak! Once a relatively hidden, rural part of Montagu, it is now sought after and is developing a gentrified, rather charming elegance about it. The central core of Piet se Pad, just opposite, is a habitat for mostly weavers, some spur fowl, plenty of sun birds, honey birds, bulbuls, mouse birds, some pied barbets and plenty more. Eagles can also often be seen overhead and we still occasionally hear owl at night. We also see loads of tortoises who journey from the mountains to the river quite a few blocks below, stopping in my garden to gobble up the gazanias, chomp on certain succulents or mow the lawn. They're all different sizes, many even being born on the property!
