Swallowfield Rondavels ...affordable and comfortable self catering accommodation in the heart of Cathkin and Champagne Valley; Central Drakensberg with spectacular views of the Drakensberg mountains. The rondavels have: braai facilities; Two plate hob; a microwave; fridge; electric frying pan; and tea/coffee making facilities Both of the two rondavels, "Feathers" and "Spades, have a flat screen TVs with either USB and DVD player or a USB port. We provide a range of movies for you to watch. Both have wifi and Open View satellite decoders. The rondavels are ideal for couples or single persons. These facilities are registered with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Affairs, Tourism and Environmental Affairs and the local municipal tourism promotion agency, "The Drakensberg Experience". Swallowfield is renowned for its range of swallows.
James Seymour, has more than 23 years of experience in the tourism sector. He has an MSc in travel and tourism management. He was formerly the Chief Convention Bureau Officer. He is a registered tourist guide and member of the Southern African Travel Services Association.
Walks and hikes. There are a number of beautiful trails in the area which mainly start from the Monks Cowl Camp which is managed by Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife. Some of our personal favourites are Crystal Falls and the Spinx, Nandi Falls together with the Sterkspruit Falls, Gray's Pass and the Blue Grotto. Also watch the video 1 and video 2 on hiking the Drakensberg; Nandi's Falls Taking a helicopter flip over the Drakensberg. There are operators across the Road from Swallowfield at Dragon Peaks Resort. Watching the sun rise over Champagne Castle, Cathkin Peak and Sterkhorn. Zip lining at the operators near Drakensberg Sun. Having a pub lunch or supper at the many resorts in the Valley. A visit to the acclaimed Cathedral Peak Wine Estate. The Winterton Museum is worth a visit; You can do hot air ballooning near Cathedral Peak Wine Estate. Thokoziza and a range of other craft centres in the vicinity are definitely worth visiting. The Spionkop Nature Reserve. Battlefield sites such as Spionkop.
