Convenient location, it is about 5-10 minute walk from the train station and 15-20 minutes to the castle. The room I stayed was quite roomy, clean and comfortable. A top-floor onsen offers the mountain view for both indoor and outdoor baths. Buffet breakfast comes with variety of choices and tasty. Ice cream, yogurt drink, and evening Soba noodle, after taking onsen, are nice treats, worth a try. Staff are very attentive and helpful.

Excellent location close to train station and everything happening in Takyama. Welcoming friendly staff at the desk. Fabulous hotel with exceptionally delightful, clean facilities and spacious rooms. Comfortable beds with quality bed linen. Wonderful spa and spa space. Delicious traditional breakfast. Happy hour with generous sake tasting, beer and orange juice. Comfortable dining/sitting area, perfect for meeting others. We enjoyed every minute of our stay for the Autumn Featival in beautiful Takyama. Thank you

We really enjoyed our stay here! We were graciously upgraded upon our arrival. We were hosted by Issekei-san (apologies if it was not the right spelling!). Parking needs to be reserved in advance. We suggest guests to reach out to the hotel ahead of time. It is 1000 yen per day at a parking spot near the hotel (1-2 mins walk). Issekei-san and his team demonstrated kindness and hospitality to me and my family by carrying our luggages from across the street (where I temporarily parked to get parking directions), and ensured that we were comfortable. He even made accommodations for us when other guests used up all the dryers such that we were able to complete our laundry by the end of our trip! The rooms and the onsens were also marvelous! The Machiya is truly worthy of its high rating. I'd visit Takayama again just for this hotel ^_^

    Hotel is very well located right beside Matsumoto station with super market, shopping mall and lots of restaurants around it. The staffs are accommodating to allow luggage storage for 3 days while i do a side hiking trip at Kamikochi (Request was asked in advance). The breakfast provided was simple and nice.

    Staff was very nice, they picked us up from the station and upon our departure they offered to drive us back. Food was delicious and very generous in size, we were absolutly full after the meal. Onsen was nice with small outside space. Hotel is very close to station and it's easy to reach Kamikochi. We were very happy with our choice.

    This hotel was one of the highlights of our trip. We had dinner bed and breakfast and the food was an experience in itself. It was authentic, fresh and very tasty. There was a mixture of food -some sushi and some raw meat and veggies which we cooked at the table in a kind of broth. The hotel staff could not do enough to help and made sure we understood how to cook the meat. The room was spacious with a separate seating area.. we used this hotel as a stop before visiting Kamikochi and would highly recommend it.

    Conveniently located near train station and places of interest, the hotel is also clean and pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was the best we had during our trip and helped in our good rest before our early checkout to head for Kamikochi. Glad to have the laundromat on two different floors.. more machine available for use. Good spread and nice breakfast😄

    The hotel has a really good location, close to the central station so you can easily get to the train that brings you to Kamikochi (hiking area). Also everything else is reachable by foot (like Matsumoto Castle). The rooms in general are good and with the access to the communal bath it is very awesome.

    Very cute accommodation. I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed it. Close and convenient for travelling in to Kamikōchi area. The place is designed for just sleeping and leaving in the morning to do outdoor activities, not a hostel type accommodation. I really enjoyed my stay Thankyou 🪱

    A proper backpackers hostel, and a place people return to. Super friendly owner and staff, easygoing atmosphere, full of information and recommendations. A good place to stay if you want help planning to do Kamikochi, Tateyama/Kurobe, Nakasendo, and beyond. There are even folders with maps and info. And a kitchen that you can actually cook a meal in -- rare in Japan! The dorm with futons and tatami is a real treat.

    My 4th time in Japan but 1st time in Matsumoto because we wanted to visit Kamikochi. The hotel is located not far from the train station and all the restaurants. The room is small as in other typical hotel roms in Japan but clean, the pillows are a little bit to hard for us but there are various choices on breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay here.

    Very strategic location near JR Matsumoto and the bus terminal, only 1 minute walk. I used it as a base to take the bus to Kamikochi. I always like Toyoko Inn as it's a bit more spacious than other business hotels. Room size is perfect for one person. Bed was comfy, I asked for extra pillow and staff was very helpful and friendly.
